Purchasing APs at Disney Store

This isn't for planning my own trip, but a question for guests I help at work. When you arrive at WDW and you have already purchased your AP at the Disney Store, can you bypass the line for purchasing tickets somehow? I'm assuming because of how the APs are printed that the card you purchase is an exchange voucher and not your actual pass.

Guests at the store asked about this today and no one was positive of the answer. I know that park tickets purchased at the store can get you right in at the gate, but it seems to me that an AP wouldn't. If that's the case, I can't see the advantage of purchasing ahead of time. Would there be a price difference at the gate, as there is with tickets?

If someone has done this before, please let me know about your experience. TIA.

you get the voucher, no price difference. the main benefit would have been that you could order DDE/TIW ahead of time (although now you can do that while you wait at the parks). you can also access the passholder site with a voucher

You don't go to the ticket window but you DO have to go to a Guest Services window (either outside of any of the parks or at the one in Downtown Disney. You exchange your AP voucher for your actual AP. It only takes a minute, but is necessary before being able to have the right ticket media to go through a turnstile.

It's easy, though!

I've also gotten my AP at the hotel with voucher in hand. No price difference.

Wow -- that must be new. It used to be that you would have to go to a park first and then come back to the hotel to show them your AP for the discount (*IF* the CM asked to see it...)
