| planes & ear pressure-earplanes? Wow.. was that subject heading a mouthful huh? I have been obsessing over our Disney trip ( as I always do) & todays obsession is ear pressure in the airplane for my kids.. My oldest is the only one who has been on a plane & then he was 9 months old & just drank his bottle during landing so he was fine..BUT now I've got 3 kids ( 9,7 &3) & I'm worried about them getting ear pressure.. What is your best recomendation for relieving ear pressure? Anyone tried earplanes for kids & do they work ( AND do you really have to put them in your ear 1 hour before landing? ICK) I can still remember my first trip to WDW ( 20 years ago <G> ) & having such bad ear pressure that everyone in my family was near tears.. We called the Orlando hosiptal & they recomended Triaminic or any other sinus RX to relieve the pressure.. I'm wondering if I should do something like this for my kids. Thanks in advance for any help ...Ann 55 days to go!!! |

| Re: planes & ear pressure-earplanes? We leave tomorrow and I just called the pediatrician about the ear pressure question. He said to give a dose of Benadryl(If it doesn't make your child hyper)before they get on the plane. Then have some bottled water, lollipops and gum for take-offs and landings. Hope this helps! | Re: planes & ear pressure-earplanes? We've been flying with our son since he was 3 months old. We've flown so much that he just earned his first round trip airfare with frequent flyer miles and he's only 6! I have always made lollipops, gum or water available at take off and landing and have never had a problem with ear pressure. We've never had to do the Benadryl thing so I can't tell you about that. Most of the time our little guy passes out about 1/2 way through the trip and we're waking him up to get off the plane. Worse case we just tell him to hold his nose, close his mouth and blow for a second and it pops his ears. Good luck and have fun. |

| Re: planes & ear pressure-earplanes? My oldest child has some real problems with the pressure upon landing. Can bring him to tears, and most of the usual ways of relieving the pain don't seem to work for him. So this past trip I bought him some earplanes to use. On the trip down to WDW my husband was sitting with him (we were separated by a few rows) and didn't put them in the hour before as suggested...and when he did, my son kept messing with them. They did not help too much as they weren't being used properly. He tried other things to relieve the pain and found that pulling down on his earlobes seemed the most useful. THen on the way home, we put the earplanes in properly an hour before landing and we had to keep telling him to leave them alone. They seemed to work much better, but he started pulling on his ears like before and probably broke the seal as we were landing. At least we had no tears or upset. My daughter doesn't seem to haved a problem with the pressure. I always have gum available on the plane and try to remember to bring bottled water to sip too. -HiddenMickey |
