Disney transportation question

Hi! I was wondering if you can catch a bus from Disney Studios to Downtown Disney. I'd like to fit in a little time at DD so my son can get squirted by Stitch & we can check out the pin shop. Unfortunately, last time I tried to get to Downtown Disney from the parks they told me I'd need to go to a resort, then catch a bus to DD. That was years ago though, so I thought I'd check to see if things have changed.

If I do need to go to a resort first, which do you suggest would be the quickest? I'm thinking Boardwalk or Beach club, but I don't know how hard it is to catch a bus from those spots.

I'm pretty sure you can do this!! Or at least I think we done something similar on our last trip!!

I may be mistaken (as all those different bus journeys all tend to blurr into one big jumble after two weeks at WDW!) so I'm sure someone will be able to give you a definitive answer!

For some reason, I feel like they don't run buses to/from DTD and the parks anymore. I am almost positive we were able to take a bus from DTD to EPCOT last year (BBB at DTD and then PSB lunch at EPCOT), but I swear I read somewhere that they quit doing it (I think the discussion was around guests at the nearby hotels to DTD walking over and using the buses to get to the various parks.) I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though.

Last time we were there you had to go to a resort then to DTD, we just choose one that was in the area of DTD

You have to go to a resort to get a bus to Downtown Disney. I'd just go to the resort that's closest to the park you're in. AK = AKL, MK = 1 of the monorail resorts or (I'd imagine) the ttc, HS & Epcot I'm not so sure about.

Because people were taking advantage of the free parking at Downtown Disney and then hopping a bus to the parks, they DON'T run buses from DtD to the parks and vice versa.

You have to go from DtD to a resort and then hop another bus to a park. (I personally like to take the boat to the Port Orleans resorts and then hop a bus, but that's a "sightseeing" trip for me. ) I would avoid the resorts that share buses with other resorts (as do the Beach Club, etc.) because it means a longer trip. I would suggest hopping on a Port Orleans bus or a Coronado Springs bus or even a Pop Century bus for that reason.

They also have taxis available -- if you're pressed for time, this is your best option.

You could also hop on the bus to SSR and walk over to DTD. Its a nice walk especially in the evening.

My first thought was to go to Swan & Dolphin, as they are the closest resort to DHS, but Eileen's right, they share bus service with all the Epcot resorts, so it would take awhile.
CBR is close to Epcot, and they don't share bus service. And SSR is very close to DTD, so that's a good option too.
OLP: Transportation Wizard -- Our Laughing Place home of OLPTravel Transportation Wizard says bus to SSR would be the fastest route!

That makes sense as to why the buses don't run directly on those routes.

It's a fairly quick walk to either the Swan or the BWI - about 15 minutes - or you can take a boat to any of the Epcot resorts. So it's not bad getting to an Epcot resort, but last time we were there, they did share a bus on the way to DTD.

I like to take a bus to POFQ. At POFQ you can either transfer to a DTD bus or take a very short walk through the resort and catch the boat to DTD. The boat ride to DTD is lovely, and you get to see the Tree House Villas on the way.
