Re: Super Soap Weekend?

Hey elbug10!

We have accidentally been there during this event (don't watch soaps so I wouldn't be there on purpose, would I !). This is held entirely at MGM (not sure if you knew that or not ). I would say that the areas that they held it (we noticed it mainly in the NY Back Lot area) were crowded but it didn't seem to affect the entire park. If you wanted autographs or to get pictures w/the actors you had to line up & wait. I think each star had a time limit so unless you were there early you could miss out on the person you wanted to see. I don't know of any package deals that were directly related to this but I might have missed it.

Hope that helps, maybe someone that went specifically for this will come along & answer your questions more specifically!

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

Hello! I am new to the boards but I am a SSW veteran . Yes, it is very crowded, but if you know what to expect you will be prepared. I have heard that the wait for rides throughout the weekend is non-existant since everyone is in line for the soap events. My only purpose for the trip is for SSW so I am not concerned about rides, etc. Depending on the popularity of the actor, you may need to wait up to 3 hours in line to get an autograph and a picture together. I definitely think that SSW is worth it and I have a great time every year I do wait for some autographs but I also see the SSW shows and watch the SSW parades. They offer packages but they usually don't publish them until the dates get closer and hotels on Disney property tend to sell out quickly for the weekend. As far as the schedules they will start announcing attending stars in the next few months and the events' schedule about a month before.
I hope I helped and let me know if you have anymore questions!

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

Thanks Cameron 991, you are awesome! I want to visit MGM as I have never been there or AK before, but I am planning my week-long trip around SSW. Is it well-organized or do you feel like you're going to get crushed by the masses? I have been to both kinds of soap events in the past, and definitely wish to avoid "the stampede" ! How many times have you attended? Did you spend both days there? Did you stay on-site or off? Also, who in your opinion made you feel like it was worth the 3 hr. wait? Thanks for answering all my questions!

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

Hi elbug10 I am happy to help ! I think that the event is fairly well organized. The number of guests that they plan for is always less than the actual amount that show up so the best t-shirts etc. sell out fast. Also, some of the General Hospital actors are so popular and the Cast Members are not prepared so it can get a little crazy. Of course you have to expect that when you have a large group there are going to be minor problems but don't let that discourage you. I think this is the 8th annual SSW and this November will be my 6th We always attend both days as there is so much to do!! We always stay onsite to take advantage of the early openings and bus transportation. I watch All My Children religiously so I focus on those actors and their events I usually pick 2-3 actors I really want to meet and get there super early (2-3 hours) and wait. Each year the actors attending change so I am able to pick my favorites. This year I am going to try for Susan Lucci(Erica Kane) which means you have to get to MGM by 6AM to get a wristband for her autograph sessions. (She is one of the few stars that a wristband is required for)The rest of the time I see the SSW shows and attend the SSW events. Anymore questions, let me know!

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

cameron 991, thanks again for answering my SSW questions. Don't quite know what I'm getting myself into, but it sounds like a blast! Thanks for warning me about the EARLY mornings; not looking forward to that, but that's the advantage of staying on-site. Don't know where as yet. Do you have ressies? I'm calling this week. I watch all the ABC shows and I get S.O. Digest and Weekly mags, so I'll know in advance who'll be there Would love to get Susan Lucci, although that's probably too much to hope for. Would settle for Rebecca Budig, Eden Riegel, Michael E. Knight... have Maurice Benard and Stephen Nichols from GH and have seen Billy Warlock and Wally Kurth in person, as well. Now if only Cameron Mathison and Josh Duhamel would return Hey, a dream is a wish your heart makes, right? Thanks again! Re: Super Soap Weekend?

Hi again elbug10! As I said the weekend is great you just have to have fun and not let some of the people get to you. In my opinion it is not worth pushing and shoving just to get an autograph . Each year we make reservations as soon as the dates are tentitively announced and if the dates move disney always changes the reservation without penalty. This year we are staying at Coronado Springs. I also get SOWeekly and Soaps In Depth and those schedules are usually pretty accurate just double check the schedules they hand out that day to make sure the are still correct (there are usually a few last minute modifications) I have met Michael E. Knight, Rebecca Buding, Cameron Mathison and Josh Duhamel among others they were all very nice . Have a great time!!!
