should I go or not?Mousefest?Kids or no kids? Use AP again, or let it run out? Help!

As a few of you know, my dh walked out on myself & my three kids this past Feb. We are doing ok ( mostly). ( We are actually better off without him, but that is a whole separate post!)

***Here is the dilema...***

This past year, my dd had nationals in FL. this past July, which when they were done, we moved over to Disney. We were suppose to go to the same nationals next July in Fl. BUT then the guy who ran the competition sold it to another dance teacher, so our director just decided that she doesn't want to go. We will instead go to a nationals somewhere here in N.E. I of course, for the first time in my life, thought I was being smart, & bought an annual pass, because I thought we would be returning .

SO, here is the dilema.... I want to go back at least one more time to get the use out of the annual pass ( the kids each have one day left on their hoppers)... BUT... do I...

take the kids next April vacation for the whole week...

take the kids to the Mousefest that is going to be going on Dec 4th to the 8th...

OR

just go away by myself ( which I have never ever done in the 10 years that I have had kids) to the Mousefest... ( plus I can't always rely on x2b as he hasn't been too dependable )

OR just deal with it & let the pass expire without using it to it's full potential!

HELP!!!

All opinions appreciated.... just don't know what to do...

don't know if I could go to WDW by myself without having major guilt if I don't take the kids.

Thanks everyone....

Barbara

I think you DESERVE a solo trip to Mousefest - so I'm going to vote for that!

Barb...first, I'm sorry about your split. Been there done that---no matter how you slice it, it hurts!

Forgive my being forward, but is it financially possible for you to go in December alone, then in April again with the kids?

I mean, if you've promised them their own trip in April, you won't feel too awful guilty going alone. Secondly, you could really use (and deserve) a few adult days. Remember, if you don't take care of you, you'll be of no use to your kids...who need you now more than ever.

When you return with the kids in April, you'll have had more time to save some extra $$$ and of course so will they (disney dollars for allowence, grade incentives, etc.). Plus, you'll be getting even more use out of your annual pass. Save the extra day from the hopper for the future, they never expire.

I'm not sure this is financially doable as I mentioned above, but maybe you can all make a sort of game out of saving for the April trip. You can have a garage sale or have each family member create one meal a week to see who can make a meal for XXX people the cheapest or ask family members for Disney money for Christmas. Saving change is easy too. It's so easy to give up something if it's only temporary and it's for a good cause----The Disney Fund!

I like Lisa's suggestion, but if you can't do it financially, then I vote for a solo trip to Mousefest.

thank you, Sandy , Lisa & Cheryl...

I am so on the fence about everything still, it's not even funny!

But I am going to think about it for a few days... hopefully get more opinions...

a friend of mine from college, (who has to listen almost daily to my woes about x2b) totally thinks I should go by myself, but I just don't know...I am with these kids 24/7, I wouldn't know what to do with myself!!!

But thanks so much for your posts...
( anyone else have any brainstorms for me???)

My vote is to go in April. Yes you deserve time alone but...Could you maybe go somewhere overnight alone that wouldn't be to far from home? Then save like crazy and take the kids in April. With everything that's going on maybe they could use some time away from home to.

Is it possible to take the kids out of school for a few days and take them with you to Mousefest? Spring Break is a very high peak time (read:CROWDS!!!). We were there in 2002 and will never go during that time again. Or even if you miss Mousefest, maybe taking them a different time (before your AP expires) might be an option.
