Need your advice...Updated 9-22 March it is!!

Here's the deal. I am trying to figure out when to take our next trip. Ideally it will be next March or April. My previous trips have been in October, November and April. It is very important that we go during a fairly slow time but we still want to have great weather (not too hot, not hurricane season, warm enough to do lots of swimming!). I don't ask for much, do I?

Since DD is in the fifth grade, having more homework, projects etc, and I am taking college courses, I would like to minimize the time that either of us miss school. Her spring break is the second week of March and mine is the 3rd week of March. I thought we'd take our trip then.

Would I regret going to WDW then? Will the crowds be thick? My DH has no patience for huge crowds. I could go in May, though I'd hate to wait. I could save more money if I waited!

If you've been in March please let me know how it went for you! I'd much rather have a great vacation in May than have a crabby DH in March!

Thanks a bunch!

One of our best trips was about that timeframe. We throughly enjoyed our March trip--the crowds were not real bad, swimming was OK and the weather was wonderful.

We went that time of year, too, and the crowd level was low. I can't remember even having to use Fast Pass. However, it was cold. We had to buy jackets, wore sweatshirts underneath, and had gloves on! We were not able to go to the pool.

This site might help you out to get an idea of the crowd levels: http://www.touringplans.com/BestDays.htm

Re: Need your advice...

If it were me, I would choose May over March. Less crowds, better weather.

Re: Need your advice...

We love May!! Fairly low crowds if you go early in the month. We were there 14th - 21st, and crowds were ok, we fastpassed a bit, I don't think we ever saw a wait more than 20 minutes (except Soarin, which was the only thing we fastpassed, but that had just opened). It got a little hot in the afternoon, but the weather was great (didn't rain once), was cool at night (but you could still swim in the heated pools (just a little cool that you may want a long sleeve t-shirt, my boys wore sweat jackets at night). You'll see flower and garden festival, and possibly Star Wars Weekends. It's our favorite time there, going back in May '07.

Re: Need your advice...

We've been there in May a few times and enjoyed it thoroughly... small crowds, beautiful weather. March is a little more crowded with Spring Break, but next year might not be as crowded because Easter is later.

I'd vote for May.

Re: Need your advice...

I've been in April, May, June, August, Sept, Oct, Dec.

Each and every trip has been warm enough to swim. Though Dec 2003 was a bit cooler than I'd usually like to get out in. All my trip excluding that Dec trip, the weather got into the 90s at least part of the trip, even my Dec 2001 trip.

Crowd levels have been varied. I think the late May/early June trip was my favorite for weather and crowds combined. The Sept and Oct trips were the best for low crowds.

Re: Need your advice...

We also enjoy May. Just try not to go when they are having Senior nights. They close the Magic Kingdom early for a special party for high school seniors. Our last trip in May got pretty crowded due to this special event. Karla

We went at the beginnign of May and loved it, you are past spring break, Easter and the weather is still beautiful. It is also before hurricane season.

Re: Need your advice...

I had a feeling that you'd all say May. Bummer! It's only been 5 months since our last trip but I can't wait for the next one. Maybe I can afford to take a longer trip in May since I'll have a couple extra months to save? I'd just hate to get down there and not be able to swim comfortably! My little DD is only 3 and I hate to worry that she's getting chilled in the pool. We got cold several times during our April trip while in the pool and I would imagine that March would only be cooler.

The upside is that it's a slow season, so prices should be lower for renting a house!

The downside is that DD would have to miss school (in May).

How to decide? AAARRRGGG!

Re: Need your advice...

March was one of our favorite trips. The spring break crowds don't hit until about the last week of March or the week around Easter(which I definitely don't recommend-will never do Easter week again). The weather was BEAUTIFUL with rain only about an hour 1 day of the trip. It was warm enough to swim but not too hot. We would definitely go in March again!

Re: Need your advice...

I have gone both in May and March. I like March better. The weather was great, and even with Spring Break, the crowds were great. Most pools are heated, as are the water parks, and we had weather in the 70's, which was awesome. So, I'm voting for March.

You guys are not making this easier! I start leaning towards May and then more people vote for March! Guess I'll keep watching and see what happens!
