Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? family of 8 will be staying at Marriott Cypress Harbour (closer to Seaworld)Dec. 27 - Jan. 3. Mini van reservations are $1,100. According to my calculations, taxi service at $80 per day comes out cheaper ($400 savings). Is it practical to use taxi service every day to/from parks to hotel? How easy is it to find/use a cab at the Disney parks? Thanks!

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? If you have a cell phone, no problem. Just call for a cab when you are ready to leave the parks. I think if you are at the Magic Kingdom though, you have to go to the TTC to get a cab, but someone else will know for sure. Having the van would be nice, but if it's $400, I'd go the other way. Your hotel doesn't have a shuttle? I know some do, but not familiar with that one.

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? Hotel has shuttle, but I hear shuttles are not timely. We'll use them, but don't want to count on them. We'd be taking two cabs at $20 each way (=$80). Again, the only reason I'm considering this is that car rentals are outrageous during this time...($1,100 for 1 mini-van or two rental cars)

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? [ QUOTE ] 8 people won't fit into one cab [/ QUOTE ] Do they have van taxis there? I know in Dallas they had tons of Taxi providers that were actually vans. That quote for the rental seems really high to me...we looked into minivans for two weeks and the highest quote I got was about $700 or $800. Of course that was not during a major holiday...maybe that makes a difference!

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? Have you tried plugging in some codes from Mousesavers you can usually get the price dropped quite a bit using the discount codes.

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? The lynx bus service was easy to use from Disney to Seaworld, so I think it'd probably work the same coming to Disney from that area. It was super cheap and dropped you off at the TTC. I believe the link is golynx.com

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? Can you rent a van for part of the trip to cut the costs? Does anyone have AAA? Look for coupons either online or in an Entertainment book. L&M car rental in the airport sometimes is pretty cheap, but I don't know what kind of a reputation they have. I've only dealt with Dollar and Alamo. The Lynx busses or a taxi could end up being cost effective with a party of your size. Good luck!!! Jennifer

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? I just checked Thrifty for those dates. A standard-size van (Ford E-150 or similar) will cost $794.13 including taxes and fees. But that is with NO discounts; if you add in promo code WMRT (which I got from MouseSavers), tha total drops to $771.21. That's still a lot fo money, but better than $1100, and way more convenient than taxis. Thrifty is off-airport, so you'll have to take a short (5 minute) bus ride to get there, but I have rented from there several times and been pleased with the service and the car each time.

Re: Taxi or Car Renal when staying at non-Disney Hotel? Willcad...you are the man! I had tried every rental car company (except Thrifty) including agencies such as hotwire and didn't get anything close to that rate. I got lucky yesterday when Dollar's rates on intermediate cars were lowered temporarily to $419 per week, so I reserved two cars. At this price, it's worth renting vs. taking a cab. I just haven't received any feedback that taking a cab is so much more convenient. I'll let everyone know how it goes. Thanks!
