Palo Alone?

For anyone that has been already, do people that are not couples ever dine alone at Palo? I have heard it is very romantic. Would I feel comfortable there. I am a single mom that loves great food!

Hi Mommy Mills,

I guess it is a bit romantic but I have seen large parties there. So how romantic can they be. I think you will be fine eating there alone. Hey I have eaten at Victoria & Albert's alone when I traveled solo and I felt fine. I am sure you can ask them to turn the spot light off so no one will notice you.

I think you'll be fine. I've seen lots of parties of friends eating there and I know one woman on our Med cruise who ate there on her own a couple of times and loved it.

You have an interesting option if you're traveling solo. You could also sit at a counter that faces the (display) kitchen. It's certainly more casual, but it gives you something more to watch, and you'll have some interesting interactions with the staff. I don't think they ever book this before you're on board, but you could speak to the maitre d' at Palo once on board and see if they'd seat you there.

The "romantic" atmosphere that people refer to for Palo has more to do with it being upscale, quiet and adults-only. A couple dining there can easily get lost in each other. But it's not like there are violinists strolling around playing love songs and only tables of two, where they hold hands with each other throughout the evening.

We dined with our in-laws and enjoyed a "grown-up" meal (which is how I think of Palo, rather than romantic). What Dave suggests sounds intriguing, too....

I ate their alone for high tea and brunch on our last meal. My husband said he'd rather eat hot dogs with the kids so I left them together eating hot dogs!
I didn't feel at all weird about eating alone at brunch or high tea. It was very enjoyable eating with absolutely no one picking off your plate!

I managed to snag a 6:30pm Palo Dinner on the At Sea day of the Mousefest cruise. I'm not sure I'm even going to keep it, I don't want to miss the shows (I know I could probably go to the late show, but I have late dining in my regular rotation).

Decisions, decisions!

(A bit OT)Oh, and I just got my Deluxe Passporter (I was starting to wear out the paperback version), and I love it!
