DCL leaving from DLR...

Just wondering how often DCL offers those Mexican Riviera cruises that leave out of Los Angeles.

I have always wanted to take a Disney cruise and go to Disneyland and go to Mexico! It seems like a great combo vacation!
While I don't think Rob will let me have a Disney honeymoon next summer its def in the back of my mind for a vacation over the next couple years.

I wasn't sure if they offered this every summer or just this past one!
Any info would be great!

Thanks!
Mel

They've done it twice. This past summer and I think in 2005 - someone will correct me if I've got the year wrong. I know they're not scheduled to be on the West Coast next year, but with 2 new ships coming online in 2011 there have been rumors that they might want to station one of the current ones on the West Coast after that.

I'm with Lesley on this one. If DCL chooses to stay with 4 ships, I'm putting money on a West Coast based ship. BEGIN RUMOR ENGINES AND GET FIRED UP!!!!! I'd bet that this ship would do at least some Alaska cruises. END RUMOR MONGERING.

Believe me, when that news is finally announced... well, if Disney makes the formal announcement at 9:00am, by 9:00:01am you'll see it on every Disney board on the web. It won't take long to type, "IT'S ALASKA!!!!" (that's all anyone will have to say - folks have been waiting a long time for that piece of news).

Chances are, it won't happen until after the new ships are in service (2011/2012), and maybe not even immediately after that happens.

For the most recent West Coast special itineraries, DCL tried something new. They announced the itineraries days in advance of opening up reservations. This gave folks plenty of time to learn about it and contact their agents beforehand. It also meant that there was a fierce run-up of demand-driven pricing, since there were so many folks trying to get reservations the very first moment.

The scramble for staterooms for the first season in Alaska ain't gonna be pretty. Probably just a bit less hectic than, say, the scene at the box office if the Beatles had announced a one-night reunion concert back in 1979.

That's correct - it was for the 50th anniversary of Disneyland (at least, that was the timing of it).

Dave, PP doesn't deal in rumors, just honest facts. And lots of dreams and wishes. And some Wonder and Magic.

Obvious, for sure. Will they have a ship with the same name as the cruise line's most popular stage show? Maybe. "Wishes" and "Dreams" are also the names of popular fireworks shows. Of course, they wouldn't have used those names if they weren't perfectly evocative of the Disney spirit.

At this point, I'm more interested in the potential names of the fifth, sixth, and seventh ships.

No, I have no word that Disney plans even more ships beyond a statement made about 10 years ago by Michael Eisner that there could eventually be nine ships - however, the cruise industry, the size of cruise ships, etc. has changed a lot since then. When compared to the capacity of the biggest ships back then, Disney's two new ships are really equivalent to three ships back then.
