Most of us expect it to be the special itineraries for 2010. Last year they announced special itineraries in early December, with less than 13 months before one of the specials (Eastern w/St. Croix) was slated to begin. that was too-short notice, as far as I'm concerned - usually we get more like 18 months. If they're planning to start special itineraries in January/February 2010, now would be a good time to announce them.

There's another possibility. In October this year, several of the 4-night itineraries have been converted to Castaway Cay double-dips (eliminating the day at sea). Perhaps they'll announce that all 4-nighters will become CC double-dips. :::shrug::: I know many people will be delighted. Me? I love my days at sea!

I'm not optimistic about special itineraries being something really cool like Alaska. There would be little need to announce that now, since the 2010 Alaska season is still 19-20 months from now. So... I expect it'll be something in a warmer climate, for the 2010 winter/spring season.

I'm also pessimistic about it being a particularly cool itinerary. With all the economic uncertainty, cost of fuel, etc., I think they're planning to make a big thing out of a garden-variety announcement (much like the 2009 St. Croix/Tortola specials). I don't think they're going to take any risks on radical new, distant destinations.

Telling Castaway Club members "first" doesn't really mean much - word will be out one minute later to the whole rest of the world. They just want to be sure they have the attention of their best customers.

I can make other, far less likely guesses. Maybe they've been able to move up the delivery of the new ships. On a similar theme, 2010 is the last season before the current delivery date for the first new ship, so maybe they're ready to announce "farewell" itineraries in the Caribbean for the Magic or Wonder, before one is (likely) repositioned "permanently" to Los Angeles in 2011.

I still think it's way too early for Disney to announce design features of the new ships, but they still may have some tidbit to toss out there.

I received the email notice and will be checking it out. All of what Dave has brought up makes a lot of sense. I'm hoping it will be the first phase of introducing the new ships like the names or something. My DDs just saw something to do with the Suite Life of Zach & Cody on one of the ships. If Monday's announcement has anything to do with that, I'll be disappointed.

"Suite Life on Deck", is part of the overall marketing, targeted to a certain demographic, I think. At least we won't have to explain what a 'European' sunbathing area is to our soon to be 9 DS, quite yet.
