| life jackets???? I was wondering if I should purchase and bring a life vest. I would hate to stuck at Castaway Cay wearing one of their orange puffy life jackets. Is that the type they use or is it a typical new style vest? Also do they charge you for the life vest/jackets when you rent a water craft? |

| There is no charge for the life vests. They are not the hard, huge life vests that you get at the resorts or on the ship at the drill. They are yellow and flat. You blow into a tube to inflate them and they are not bulky or uncomfortable. They were great for snorkeling when we had them!

| The orange life vests from the cabins cannot be taken off the ship (well, except in case of emergency! On Castaway Cay, there are two types of personal flotation devices - the yellow/green dive vest as mentioned above and a foam 'boating' vest for water sports and non-swimmers. The dive vest...(similar to this) ![]() shouldn't be used by non-swimmers as it doesn't provide much in the way of flotation. It's purpose is more to keep snorkelers at a depth comfortable for snorkeling. It doesn't secure very tight as it's not meant to restrict movement, only assist in bouyancy. The other type of vests... are available at no-charge at the rental shop. It buckles around for more complete support. Adults and children MUST wear them with any type of water craft rental or excursion. Hope this help! ![]()

| Here are some pix of us while wearing them: ![]() They really did not get in the way if you inflate them just enough... They also appear to sanitize them after every use. They have de-salinization equipment, so there seems to be no shortage of clean water for washing.
