Passport Card Question

Has anyone used this on DCL? I just got my new passport book and card. I'm planning to take both on our October cruise, as I know I'd need the book if anything happened and I had to fly home, but can I use the card to get off and on the boat at Nassau? Just thinking it would be more convenient to carry around. TIA!

Unless things have changed in the last year, and I don't think they have, you don't need any type of passport to get on and off the ship -- just your Key to the World card and photo ID. (Now, we've never disembarked at Nassau, so I can't be positive about this, but we definitely didn't need passports to disembark at Castaway Cay, which is also the Bahamas, or any of the other ports.) I carried photocopies of my family's passports "just in case," but a passport card would probably provide the same security.

Happy planning,
Melissa

If you are already taking your Passport Book, you won't need the Card. You can use a Driver's License as photo ID for getting on and off the ship, leaving your passport in your safe. If you'd rather use your card as your picture ID, then I'm sure you'd be allowed to...and then you wouldn't need your DL.

Yes, the card would count as government-issued photo ID for getting back on the ship. Actually, that's one of the reasons I'd get the card to go along with my passport book - it's a durable, compact piece of government-issued ID. I'd just as soon leave my drivers license with my passport book back in the ship's safe. Since getting a card (at the same time) only adds about $20 to the cost of a passport book application, that's the only time I think the card is a good deal.

Just returned from our unbelieveable Magic Cruise to the W. Carrib.
The only time we needed our passports was disembarkment the last day. We used our key to the world card and driver's license for on and off the ship on port days. Photo copies work great and are less stressful if lost or stolen.
Happy Sailing.
