Castaway Cay Stingray Excursion

My wife and I are thinking about doing this with our 8 year old. Only the cruise is a surprise for said 8 year old, she will not find out about it until we drive over the bridge and she asks "why are we at the Mickey Boat?" That brings me to my question, my daughter is sometimes nervous around animals but often warms up to them. We decided that we would maybe book this onboard. Does anyone know if this is something that "sells out?" We are not locked into "having" to do this but were looking for info. Thanks so much!!!

I think our session was full (we did 10 AM). I'd highly recommend it. If she's scared of the rays, she can stand off to the side while you feed them (and hopefully can coax her back over)!!

2 years ago, our last cruise, we overheard some people at the desk on day one complaining about the sting ray excursion being sold out, and having to get on a waiting list.

Just something to consider.

We did this in March and our DDs really enjoyed it. It starts with a brief talk about the rays then you enter the water for the feeding. They have special feeding "troughs" that the rays swim through to get the food. After that there's the time to swim with them. Your daughter could stand back a bit to watch the feeding and see if she wants to get involved. There are rays swimming around but you can get out of their way. As for the swimming, they're mostly on the bottom so you somewhat hover over them. I think they said there were around 50 rays total in the area. It was a great experience and our DDs thought it was great. I think it's a pretty popular thing to do so I'd try to decide before you go.
