Hello, We will be taking our first 7 day cruise very soon we have taken many 3 and 4 day but this will be our first 7 day with DCL.... I realized today that I forgot to plan for transfers from the airport to the ship .... We have done disneys transfers before but we are always there late .... I would like to be early this time ... How do some of you all get to the ship??? or is disney's transfers the way to go??? Thanks very excited
There are two other options - one-way car rental, or a town car service. Both can deliver your desire of being there earlier, and if you have three or more travelers, can also be cheaper overall. The car rentals are usually cheapest, but you have the extra work of picking up and dropping off the rental. The town car will meet you at the airport and take you directly to the cruise terminal. Quicksilver Tours and Transportation, which is one of our sponsors, offers this service.

We did 2, 1-way rentals. Because we are a family of 5, this was the (much) cheaper option. We used Budget and it was sooo easy. Total cost for both cars was less than $100. I'd do this again.

DME is for transportation to the DW resorts only from MCO. You have to pay for transfers from either the resorts or MCO to the port and back.

Mears Transportation operates both the DCL transfers and DME under contract with Disney, so in those senses, they're related. There are times when a bus painted for one purpose (DCL or DME) ends up getting used for a different purpose, too.
DME can be part of a DCL booking IF it includes a stay at WDW. You'll get DME (no-charge) transportation to/from MCO and WDW, and you'll pay for DCL transfers for the trips to/from Port Canaveral. However, you can't reserve DCL transfers by calling DME - you have to book DCL transfers through DCL or your travel agent.
If you're booking DCL transfers, they'll also book your DME for you - no need to contact DME separately.
If you booked a separate land stay at WDW and are not using DCL transfers for travel to/from Port Canaveral, then you'd make DME arrangements directly with DME.

We prefer to rent a car on the way to the port, this way we can make any last minute stops at our pace or run out for dinner the night before and get to the port at our time but we like the DCL transfers for the return to the airport. This way we can take advantage of the onboard airline checkin and NOT deal with our luggage.
We used Quicksilver from the airport to a hotel at the port, then a cab from the hotel to the ship. We then used Quicksilver from the ship to Universal, and Universal to the airport. We LOVED them. We got a towncar and there was plenty of room for our family of 4 and all of our luggage. The car was VERY nice - I have Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis, so car rides can be difficult, but this was like riding on a cloud. The drivers were professional and courteous. We will definitely use them again!
I saw your post on car rentals we will also be a family of 5 and considering renting mid size car Ford taurus Chevy impala did you have any issues with fitting the luggage of 5 people in vehicle that's my only concern thanks for any insights
