Disney Fantasy Sets Sail in April 2012 – Disney Cruise Line 2012 Itineraries

From DCL ....
Disney Fantasy Sets Sail in April 2012 – Disney Cruise Line 2012 Itineraries Open for Booking

CELEBRATION, Fla. (Oct.18, 2010) – The Disney Fantasy will sail her maiden voyage on April 7, 2012, bringing even more innovation, unique guest experiences and personalized service for which Disney Cruise Line is renowned. A sister ship to the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy will feature an AquaDuck water coaster, magical children’s areas, world-class entertainment, delightful dining, retreats for adults and immersive experiences for guests of all ages with beloved Disney stories and characters.

Guests will be able to book Disney Cruise Line sailings, including the Disney Fantasy, for the initial part of the 2012 season beginning Oct. 20, 2010. The Disney Fantasy will sail out of Port Canaveral, Fla. on the popular seven-night Caribbean itineraries – alternating eastern and western – including a stop at Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay.

The Disney Dream will continue to sail three-, four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, while the Disney Wonder will remain on the west coast, sailing Mexican Riviera itineraries from the Port of Los Angeles. To start the 2012 season, the Disney Magic will sail alternating eastern and western Caribbean itineraries.

“The Disney Fantasy continues our tradition of sailing beautifully-designed vessels that offer innovations, world-class guest service and memorable family vacation experiences like only Disney can do,” said Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz. “We are delighted to expand our offerings to provide guests with more options and more flexibility to enjoy a Disney family cruise.”

Fantastic news, eh?! It will be nice to have the 7-night itineraries back in more frequent rotation than they have been lately with the Magic in the Med for parts of the year! I'm looking forward to all of the great ports of call they'll be able to offer with 4 ships in service.

Looks like the Fantasy will be visiting Costa Maya instead of Key West
I am glad there is at least one new port but I wish they had changed it up a bit more. The same ports are getting boring even on a new ship

Hmmm... wonder if dates for November 2012 (on the Fantasy) will be available for booking when we take our cruise in just under 3 weeks... if not, I guess I will be booking a dummy date and moving. SO EXCITED!!!!

No announcement on that yet! The webcast included the information already released. Nothing that wasn't in the press releases.

So..what do you all think?

Any thoughts on the change in the Western Caribbean schedule for the Fantasy, with a short stop in Costa Maya instead of a long stop in Key West?

Personally, I like it, since I've never really liked Key West. We stopped at Costa Maya on our first cruise in December 2005, which was diverted after a hurricane (Wilma?) wiped out Cozumel the month before. We enjoyed our beach excursion that day, and found the island to be very underdeveloped at the time. I'm not sure what we'd do if we stayed much longer.

I imagine that given the late arrival, would they treat that day as another sea day (for brunch and character breakfast purposes), as they do with Key West?
