Macy has been home with the flu for the last few days so I have been home as well without a lot to do. This gave me bunches of time to research the excursions we were considering in Alaska. After numerous phone calls and emails between us, my parents and the tour companies, this is what we have booked:
Skagway: we booked with Chilkoot Charters for their White Pass Summit Rail & Bus. We considered booking the Steam Train directly with the rail company but when I tried to do that I received this email from them:
Unfortunately, our space allotment for July 1st on the Fraser Meadow Steam Excursion is sold out, please check with your cruise ship for availability, as they charter a block of space on that train. If the ships don’t sell their allotted space, then the seats are turned back to us. If you would like to check with us July 1st, we could possibly have space available.
I did more research and we decided the excursion with Chilkoot would work just fine even though it wasn't the steam train. I had forgotten about all the soot that we had on us after our steam train ride in New Mexico a couple of years ago and would rather not have to deal with that this trip.
Juneau - we booked with Harv & Marv's for a private Whale Watching tour with a stop at Mendenhall Glacier.
Ketchikan - we booked Island Wings for a two hour Misty Fjords National Monument Flightseeing Tour.
The deposits are made and I have confirmations so now I can concentrate on what we will do in Vancouver.
WooHoo!! I've been busy myself booking flights, hotels, etc. for our cruise on June 14. It is beginning to seem real. I think we are going to stick with the ship's excursions, but they will be similar to yours.
Congrats!! And wow, our excursions are exactly the same! We are also booked with Harv and Marv for a private boat in Juneau! We are also booked with Island Wings- but we booked the Misty Fjord Flightseeing combined with the Glacier flightseeing! I have not booked Skagway yet, but I am 100% that we are booking Chilkoot for the exact same as you- train up, bus down.... I have not officially booked as I am debating doing the mushers camp/sled ride add on..... I think I have decided to do it..... I should have it figured out and booked by months end..... So excited!!

One excursion that Disney doesn't offer, but that looked like fun to us (we are big duck tour fans) is the Duck Tour in Ketchikan. We booked that for ourselves in Ketchikan--unfortunately, glaciers are not wheelchair friendly and that seemed like a nice, sedate choice for our group.

There are lots of great things to do in Vancouver. If it's your first visit, I would strongly recommend the Grouse Mountain Tram and the Vancouver Aquarium. If you've seen those things, or have been a few times, if you have a family pass to the local science museum, it may have reciprocal membership to Telus Science World, which would get you in for free or at a reduced price.
The International Buddhist Temple in Richmond (near the airport) is unbelievable, and almost nobody knows about it. Their gardens are exquisite, and they have free visiting hours.
The Van Dusen botanical gardens are also just beautiful.
If you're looking for places to eat in Vancouver, the White Spot is a great place for families, and they have pirate kids meals (perfect pre-cruise fare).
