I am sailing July 15, 2013. I was wondering if any one has sailed in Alaska in July? I have been reading that there are a lot of mosquitos at that time. Can anyone PLEASE let me know if it is really that bad to sail in July? Maybe I should postpone and go in Aug 2013.

I sailed the beginning of July a few years ago. (Before Disney had a ship there). I don't really remember any Mosquitos so while I am sure they were around they didn't damper my trip. I wouldn't change your date just for that.
I think it depends where you're going. We were at Denali NP late June, and yes, there were mosquitoes! Quite a lot actually. However we didn't notice any mosquitoes on the cruise part of the trip which was the first week of July (Skagway, Juneau, Icy Strait, Ketchikan). I wouldn't change my trip just due to mosquitoes though. We had bug spray with us, which made it more tolerable!
I'm pretty sure it'll depend on your choice of excursion. Going for a hike? Yeah, bring bug repellant. Going whale watching, walking around town? Probably not all that necessary. I just saw a documentary on PBS where part was shot in Haines, which is about halfway between Juneau and Skagway. They were out in the woods, it was muddy, and yeah, they included one scene where they complained about the bugs.

We did the Rainforest Sanctuary Hike in Ketchikan last July and remember swatting a few flying critters. We didn't have bug spray on/with us and it was o.k.

We are going to be on your same cruise!!! Our first to Alaska and we are very excited!!!
Hi! My family and I have done two Alaskan cruises in the last 3 years and we go at the beginning of July and will be going this July(Not on DCL but Holland America) We will be going out the week before you(7-6 to 7-13). Have not encountered any issues with mosquitoes on any of the cruises that we have taken. It never hurts to take bug spray with you, but we have gone on days that it has rained and good weather as well and never noticed an issue with mosquitoes. It will be a great place to see as you can tell by the fact that we are going back for the 3rd time in 4 years. Hope you enjoy and if you have any questions feel free to ask away. Hope you get to see some of Seattle as well, it's a great city to see and you can't miss going to Pike Place Market.
