Urgent help needed - Last Minute Cruise Cancellation
I need some help or advice. Our nephew has been battling cancer for three years and took a sudden turn for the worse two days ago. It now looks like he will not make it through the week. We are supposed to leave this Friday on the Magic and when I contacted our travel agent they said there was nothing they can do. We must go or lose the cruise. We are going to have to cancel.
Call Disney cruise line directly and ask to speak to a manager! Explain and ask for options. I take it that you didn't get trip insurance. Cause if you did it would be coverage to some extent.
As an oncology nurse (and a human being) my thought and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. In the end remember to do what your nephew would want you to do.

I am so sorry to hear about your nephew. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I agree with everyone, I would call Disney directly.
Years ago there was a 4 day DVC Member event celebrating the opening of Saratoga Springs. The event was "non refundable." We were literally in Disney for 3 hours before getting the call my grandfather passed away from cancer. We repacked and went to the front to check out, explaining why we were suddenly leaving. A few weeks later not only did we get all of our points deposited back into our account, we also go a large box in the mail containing all of the member gifts that were given out that week. We never asked Disney for any type of refund, but this shows they can make exceptions to the rule.
You cannot call Disney directly, your agent must do it. Would you consider rescheduling instead of cancelling? Disney may be more lenient if you are willing to move your cruise rather than cancel it outright. that it all works out.
Belle is right, Disney will only listen to the person who made the reservation.
Sending prayers and hugs.

Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
