Disney Magic Drydock in September - What to expect?
I know the Disney Magic will go into drydock in September. Is there any information (or speculation) as to what will be refurnished, replaced, upgraded, or added?
Carol Gallo (CruiseCarol) recently posted that there are rumors that Parrot Cay is scheduled for a makeover. There's an expectation that they'll upgrade Animator's Palate. The Fantasy's ability to offer two (well, even more than two) "shows" in Animator's is something we can probably expect to see migrate to the Magic and Wonder.
I can make a fairly long list of what they might upgrade, but that's not based on any reports that are in circulation. Among those: Tweens club (the Magic's version of Edge has so much less to offer than the Dream Class version), Enchanted Art and similar video-based features... after that? The real work will probably take place backstage, especially in the kitchens. It's been really hard for the Magic and Wonder to get better than a 95% on CDC health inspections, and most of the problems are in the kitchens - unavoidable wear and tear.
Me? I'm already looking forward to the Wonder's rehab in 2014 - if they use all 82 of the days that are currently blank on the Wonder's fall 2014 schedule, they can do a whole lot more than they can do to the Magic in its allotted time in the shipyard.

"Refurbish" implies major work, which I don't think is needed, and would be incredibly time-consuming. "Refresh?" It's possible - new carpeting and upholstery is a pretty common approach on cruise ships. With a combined 42 days in dry dock and on the transatlantic repo, they'd have to refurbish more than 10 staterooms each day. If each stateroom was a major, multi-day project? There would have to be a whole lot more workers assigned to the job.

The Wonder and the Magic are both supposed to have the "Beach Blanket Buffet" areas completely re-done as well. Several of the Food and Beverage Managers and Chef's have mentioned to me that in the near future those areas would be turned into more of a Cabanas style buffet. The Cabanas areas function much more efficiently than the current one line, cafeteria style old school buffet line. When and if that will happen, who knows, but it's on everyone's radar.
I love the setup of Cabanas with the separate station, it just feels like there is more freedom and each of the stations are a little more accessible and more cleanly (smaller portions being monitored more frequently and more closely, etc). There's nothing worse than seeing a kid grab something out of a buffet bowl in line in front of you and put it back. No thanks!
