Disney Cruise Ships Poll to the group - Curious to know who has been on the Disney Cruise line and what your impressions are! We have been on Royal Carribbean quite a few times and now that our kids are school age/toddlers we'd love to try out DCL. Curious to your thoughts on accommodations, things to do, ports of call, etc... We'll have 5 in our party - THANKS! [ 03-30-2002, 01:28 PM: Message edited by: Dadtojbj ]

Re: Disney Cruise Ships DH and I did the DCL as part of our honeymoon in Sept 2000. We had a wonderful time. We had a category 6 cabin with a verandah and it was quite spacious. Although we didn't have kids with us, we saw a lot of families on board and the kids all appeared to be having the time of their lives. The ports of call we had were Nassau, Freeport, and Castaway Cay. Nassau was not the best. We chose to do our own thing and wander the town instead of doing an excursion. The town was dirty, the peddlers were pushy and next time I would definitely do an excursion or stay on the ship. Freeport was much less touristy, so we enjoyed that day. We also did a glass bottom boat excursion while in Freeport and that was really fun. Castaway Cay was by far the best and most relaxing port of the cruise. I recommend DCL to everyone I talk to about it. We had so much fun, we can't wait to go back.

Re: Disney Cruise Ships I've been on four different cruise lines (including Carnival and Royal Caribbean) and Disney is by far my favorite. The ships (both Magic and Wonder) are gorgeous and the evening shows are spectacular. We had our teenager with us last year and she loved every minute of the cruise. While in Nassau, we ventured on the snorkeling excursion, which was the best snorkeling trip we've taken on a cruise. Other than that, not much to say about Nassau. We loved Castaway Cay, and rented bikes while there. If you bike all the way along the trail to the end, there are some interesting sites to see. If you are into casino's, there are none on any of DCL's ships, but plenty in Nassau/Freeport. The dining experience on DCL is great...a different restaurant each night (total of three), with different themes. And the food is better than what you've heard! (At least that's what we found out.) I highly recommend DCL to anyone taking a cruise!

Re: Disney Cruise Ships DH & I did the cruise (our first ever) in December and really enjoyed it. We weren't sure what to expect, but loving all things Disney, we figured it couldn't be that bad. We had a category 9 room (cabin 2584) which I felt was more than spacious enough for the two of us. If we had taken our children, that room would probably have felt cramped. (Although we noticed the family across the hall was in an inside room with 4 children!) We thought the ship itself (the Wonder) was great, we never felt too confined. The food for the most part was good. Some of the meals were just average, some better than average. Palo was excellent, possibly one of the best meals we have ever had, anywhere. We did the excursion to Atlantis on the day in Nassau and really enjoyed it. The resort is huge, and we found the tour interesting. We stayed on the ship in Freeport, and found out later that there was a local market right near the ship that was supposed to be very nice. Castaway Cay was beautiful, but it rained most of the time we were there. If the sun had been out, it would have been outstanding. The entertainment was very enjoyable (although I thought the Hercules show could have been better). One night they had a comic named Gary Delena who was very funny. I'm not much of a night owl, so there was only one night that we stayed up late, and it didn't seem like there were very many adults in the Route 66 area. Overall, we thought the cruise was great and are looking forward to doing it again (probably the 7 day next time) when our kids are old enough to be in the kids activities.

Re: Disney Cruise Ships Should have put this in my earlier post. To compare two things between Royal Caribbean (RCCL) and Disney (DCL)... First the accomodations. Staterooms on DCL are much larger than RCCL. We felt quite cramped in RCCL cabins, whereas on DCL the staterooms are not only larger, but nicer in looks. A definite plus when you are talking about such a small area to begin with. Second the private islands. While we love RCCL's Coco Cay, it really does not compare to DCL's Castaway Cay. Much more to do at Castaway Cay, and to me just much more beautiful. And the ship docks right at Castaway Cay, as compared to RCCL tendering to Coco Cay. Just a few more opinions. We do like RCCL, but prefer DCL.
