Grand Cayman VS. Costa Maya

The Nov. 6-13th Magic cruisers are so confused!!
We finally got official letters from DCL saying that we would for sure be going to Costa Maya instead of Grand Cayman. NOW if seems today that DCL representatives called some of the cruisers to say that we will be going to Grand Cayman! I was just starting to look forward to Costa Maya!
Oh Well, it will be an interesting port either way.

Re: Grand Cayman VS. Costa Maya

My travel agent told me Grand Cayman is open to cruisers finally, so I guess you all are back with Grand Cayman. But I'd think they would have to keep their committment to Costa Maya if they told them everyone was coming!

GC is open to two ships per day, effective Nov 1. They will re-evaluate the following Monday and increase the number as prudent. No overnight guests until the 15th, though.

Well, to really confuse you, we were talking to someone at Castaway Cay who says that DCL will be doing CC twice instead of the Grand Cayman stop.

Re: Grand Cayman VS. Costa Maya

Wow, this IS a mystery cruise

I have talked to a few fellow cruisers who have talked to DCL and they seem pretty certain that it will be Grand Cayman for us but I never got a call like others have. I am curious but not upset about the changes and confusion. Grand Cayman, Castaway Cay, Costa Maya .... It all sounds nice

Re: Grand Cayman VS. Costa Maya

Hi, another of those "confused" November 6th cruisers. The day after my TA called to say we'd been "offically" switched to Costa Maya, she called back to say, "nope, you're going to Grand Cayman".

I have to say that most of our party is very excited to be going to GC. They're really looking forward to Stingray City. I'm just hoping that the rum cake sampling will be available

Guess you'll have to try some and see. I think it's an acquired taste though.

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe, maybe not. I've had better rum and much better cake. Still, a free sample is a free sample.

Especially going into the holiday season, I'm sure you can find far superior rum cakes in specialty catalogs. The Cayman Island variety is barely more than a simple sheet cake. There are other rum cakes from other islands that are closer to the old British tradition - a rum-soaked fruitcake.

Re: Grand Cayman VS. Costa Maya

I just got home from the seven day western. We were the first from DCL to go back to Grand Cayman. I think most cruisers had a good time at this port but I may have been a bit happier at Costa Maya. There were plenty of shops open but some (such as the Hard Rock Cafe) were still closed. There was lots of large construction equipment and cranes to help rebuild. I went on a semisubmersible excursion and the water was a bit murky but we saw plenty of fish.
I did purchase a small rum cake but have not yet sampled it
