upgrade purchase at check in?

First I would like to say thanks to all who contribute to this board,we have had lots of great ideas and tips on planning and getting ready for our cruise. With passporter in hand we are leaving on the 7nt Western next Saturday (9/24)and was wondering if anyone has had any experience purchasing an upgrade at a reduced price upon check in.We booked a cat. 9 and we recieved our docs last week and did not recieve an upgrade, fortunatly we did end up on deck 2 and not deck 1.
We would have liked to have a verandah but did not feel it was worth paying almost another $1,000.I have heard that you can sometimes purchase an upgrade upon chek in if they are available for a lot less than the original price.
Thanks Michael

Re: upgrade purchase at check in?

It depends on how full the ship is. Sometimes they will sell it at a discount, but frequently it's at the difference between the price on that day.
