Costa Maya It seems like there’s a lot of interest in Costa Maya, so I figured I start a dedicated thread. If you missed it, I wrote up a mini review of our day there back in September when the Disney Magic visited due to a re-routed itinerary due to Hurricane Rita. That’s message #1016181 in the Wilma vs. Cozumel thread. Since then I found a web site with several pictures and a pretty good description of Costa Maya. I know NOTHING about this company and am in NO WAY ENDORSING them. However, I do think it gives a good overview of the port. Note the link in the lower right corner to additional pictures. Costa Maya info I also think I’ve figured out how to post with pictures, so here are some of my Costa Maya Pictures……………… The port village from our balcony ![]() The beach and facilities on the Beach Snorkel excursion ![]() ![]() My son ready to go snorkeling…. ![]() Hubby and son enjoying the pool a Costa Maya…. Steve is standing in the main/ deepest part of the pool. There’s a step up just in front of him to area about 2 feet deep, and then another step up to the fountain area which is 6-8 inches deep ![]() ![]()

Re: Costa Maya Thanks for the information! I also found this website, but was disappointed it didn't include any trips to the ruins. That had been the excursion we had planned for Cozumel. The Disney Cruise website does now list the excursions - it just won't let you reserve them yet. There were a few ruins trips/tours so we hope to still do one of those. Anyone on line been to ruins around Costa Maya?

Re: Costa Maya My parents (ages 70 & 72) did the ruins tour at Costa Maya while the rest of the group went beach snorkeling. They enjoyed the tour. They're here this weekend, and I was just looking at their photo albums from the cruise. The ruin pictures surprised me - there was more there than I expected. They mentioned at one point the group climbed up a fairly tall ruin to get a better look at a more distant ruin. They decided to wait at the base for everyone to come down. The pictures mom took looked pretty incredible. Is there any particular questions you want me to ask them? Kim

Re: Costa Maya Hi, This is my first cruise. We leave December 3. We've been to Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel though. I'm disappointed that it appears we won't be going to Cozumel. Looking at the websites it looks like there is a nice pool/beach area right near where the ships dock. I'm assuming that the beach that you went to must have some advantages. Can you let me know why you chose that beach? I tried to search back to your previous post, but for some reason the search feature wouldn't work for me. Thanks for posting this information. I'm feeling overwhelmed by the idea of a cruise and the change in ports is a little overwhelming as I had used the Passporters Guide to become familar with where we'd be going. Not much for change, I guess. Deb

| Re: Costa Maya Deb, We went on the Beach Snorkel Excursion, which is how we ended up on that beach. I think this is the URL to my report about our day at Costa Maya. Costa Maya post Scroll down to get to my message. You may have to change your forum settings to show a longer period than 2 weeks. There's a drop down box to do this in the lower left corner. We did hang out at the pool for a couple of hours, but did not go to or see the port beach. It looked VERY rocky from what I could see. I think there's sandier beaches over by the actual village. | Re: Costa Maya Based on Disney site, it seems there is no DCL organized Scuba in Costa Maya. What a bummer! Cozumel is some of the best diving around! |

Re: Costa Maya The diving in Costa Maya is okay, but not great. I can look up a couple of shops in Majhual that get good reviews. Most of the good diving is a long boat ride out (like Belize) but they are used to dealing with cruise ship passengers.

Re: Costa Maya Thanks for all the information. Our family is scheduled to go to Costa Maya in August 2006. My son (age 10)is studying the Mayans in school and we REALLY want to go to one of the ruins. Now that the Costa Maya excursions have been in place for a little while, does anyone have any suggestions? There are two offered. We also will have our 6 year old with us and want to pick one that we can do as a family. Not only is this our first Disnet cruise but it is also our first trip to Mexicao and I am very overwhelmed. Thanks!

Re: Costa Maya We did the Chaccoben (sp?) tour & really enjoyed it. There were many families and the guide went out of his way to answer the children's questions, but provided good info for the adults at the same time. It is about a 40 min bus ride up and back, but the guide talks the whole time the way up. I think this one is a bit shorter than the Kohulich (sp?) which is why we chose it. Younger kids might not have the attention span for the longer one.
