| Going to Disney with Special needs Child Hi everyone, I'm new to the board. I would like to hear any suggestions. Especially, if you have a special needs child. My son is 8yrs old in a wheelchair and this is his first "real" vacation. I would love to hear your experiences. Thanks!!! |

| Welcome to the boards!!! Our needs are different (my son has aspergers and food allergies), but the one thing I can say is there is no place like Disney if you do have special needs. We have taken our children 4 times, and planning their 5th trip. Disney trips are so much easier for us, than going anywhere else. I know when you get to the parks you can request a GAC card which helps with any particular needs you have (we don't need this, but I've heard others talk about it-- so others will know more about it)---Do you have any specific questions?

| and to the boards! We don't have serious special needs. I have two children with life threatening food allergies as well as one child with vision problems and another (one with food allergies) who has a neurological birth defect. It will be our first trip to Disney. From everything I hear, there is no place better than Disney for a special needs individual. Hope it is more than you imagine for your child and you!

| to the boards! Our DD is special needs; she has Hurler's Syndrome (a genetic disorder that causes her to be very short at only 43 inches, have stiff joints, and mental retardation). But even with all that at 21 years old, she gets around pretty well and has few special requirements. So I don't know much about wheelchairs in WDW, but I do know that Disney has always taken care of any special needs that we did have. Also check out the Passporter's Walt Disney World for Special Needs guidebook -- Very helpful!

| I read all ears and if they know in advance that you are arriving with a special needs child they will accomadate you and more than likely pass you before other people on the rides/ Hope this helps |

I, too, recommend the special needs passporter (there is an updated version in the works called PassPorter's Open Mouse). This forum http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...al-needs/forum on these boards has lots of advice, and you will probably get a prompt and helpful response there to any specific issues.
