| New--looking for Cruise tips/advice Hi, I'm new to the boards (and over at DISboards as well) but not new to Disney. Have taken several terrific trips to WDW orchestrated by DH who is our planner extraordinaire for the parks. But...this Feb I am branching out and taking my first Disney Cruise with my 2 kids (DD age 11 and DS age 9), but without DH (he can't get away from work when the kids are on break). I am feeling excited but a bit daunted by the planning, tbh, so am hoping that I can draw on the experience of everyone here to make my trip that much more enjoyable. |

| Welcome to the boards! I've found that cruises require much less advance planning than park vacations, so you should be fine. Take some time before your final payment date to look over possible excursions so you're ready to book online when your window opens. You can also sign yourself up for spa treatments and a meal at Palo if you want. Then you just need to fill out your cruise forms online or on paper, board the ship, and relax and enjoy! There are daily activity decisions to be made, of course, but choosing among onboard activities felt much less stressful to me than being at the parks trying to decide which attractions to do in which order, how to be in the right place at the right time for dining reservations, how much time to allow to get from place to place, and so on. Please post any specific questions you may have, and happy planning! Melissa

| for the warm welcome everyone ! I'm having a lot of fun pouring over the different excursions, deciding how far to go decorating my door, etc etc. It does seem less stressful than what my DH goes through in coordinating our WDW park trips. |

| We did the 3 night cruise Feb 09 and it was COLD! When we landed in FL it was in the low 50's and in the Bahama's in the 60's and low 70's. This was a fluke in weather and no one really packed accordinly. Lucky for us, by the last day it was 78 and we enjoyed Castaway Cay the way one is suppose to (in the water, on the beach in swimsuits...not sweatshirts!). Just mentioning this to you so you are prepared IF you too get a cold front moving through. Watch FL and Bahama weather forecasts closely so you are mentally and physically prepared! Some other tips: ~Pack as lightly as possible. Everyone ends up packing too much! ~Pay attention to the Navigator (ship activities) as it lists everything going on and the times. ~Take advantage of the room service. Order cookies before bedtime! ~Nassau can be intimidating to those who are not familiar with the locals "selling techniques". Some feel they can be pushy and frightening, but we didn't feel that way. A simple "no thank you" did the trick. If you do plan on spending time shopping in the markets, don't pay full price as they work on the bartering system. Work it! The cruise is very relaxing compared to DW as everything is pretty much done for you. Have fun! |
