Thinking it would be nice to have others who are on a similar journey to chat with and have as a source of motivation/encouragment. Anyone interested?
I'd be happy to chat anytime you want to. I'm doing this pretty much on my own, so I'd be happy for someone to talk with too. I did my third run for week one yesterday and will start week two tomorrow. I did pretty well with week one, but it's only running one minute at a time! I still can't imagine running for 30 minutes straight (let alone hours), but hopefully I'll get there.

The only time I would not run outdoors is during thunderstorms or when there is ice and snow on the paths. If it is cold I just bundle up in cold-weather running gear. In fact, I would rather run on 20 degree weather than 80 degree.
Do you have a rec center near you?
Happy running!
Wouldn't you know it, it's raining... again! Okay silly questions because I'm new at this, but what type of running shoes do you wear for rain/snow?
No rec center, and not ready to rejoin a gym just yet. I'm on week one, so it's not so bad. And I won't look too silly with my raincoat/umbrella.

Absolutely! And I feel the same way about running... and it's literally one step at a time for me soI can use all the extra suppor too!
I would love to do a C25K. Which app(s) did you download? When did you start? I would also love to do a run at Disney for motivation!! I'm outta shape and so not a runner but I've heard that C25K can make a runner out of anyone??
I'm using the C25K podcast's by NHS. Someone here recommended that program and so far I really like it. The narrator/trainer is from the UK and has a wonderful accent. I love listening to her .

You did not! On the last app update, they changed the name for some reason. I have the same one.
Oh good! I started googling to find out more. I did find this and wanted to share; gives the entire schedule so the app isn't required if you want to do the program.
To add to the confusion, there are other apps that also have C25K in their titles! Wish there was some way to tell the difference, if any.

Thank you for sharing this. I didn't even think to look here! Downloading as I type this.

I have the same program as you linked above bookmarked in my computer and have had it for years. It wasn't until I downloaded the podcast that I finally got moving and did it. I think having someone to tell me when to jog and when to walk has been a huge help! Keep us posted on your progress.

I also realize I'm going to have to clear some space for more music files. And it got me thinking about playlists. Based on favorite songs, beats per minute, or just whatever is on the radio.
In regards to the weather question-I too love running in cooler weather and I actually really enjoy running in the rain. Have a light water resistant jacket(bright) for a cooler rainy day or I just let myself get wet on a warmer day. If it is pouring rain, I may put it off(mostly for visibility purposes for me and the cars I am sharing road with) but I have been caught in pouring rain in the middle of a run and was soaked... I don't wear different shoes for weather. For some runners, in the Winter-they put Yak Trax on their feet but I have never tried that. If I went out and there was too much snow or ice, I cut it short and waited for it to clear a bit. The heat is the big thing that beats me-it just means trying to get up and out earlier in the day and hydrating big time. I have just gone a mile on a miserable hot, humid day and ended my run right there. Good luck to all doing starting out. You can do it. Do that 5k and you will be looking at a half, I guarantee it!

Thank you for the tips and encouraging words!
I'm also the same way with the heat (and the sun) so I've been getting up before the rest of the family. If I waited until the evening, it would never happen.
Won't have to worry about winter weather for a while but I'm making a note to find out more about yak trax.
We are trying the C25k ourselves. We need to restart after some minor tendonitis ect.
I hope DW(Coop) never runs into "Laura",the voice on the program, she might STRANGLE the poor woman HAHA

Hello! I was wondering how your Couch to 5k is going? I just started, and am only 2 days in, but I'm enjoying it! I got new running shoes, and am borrowing DD's iPod to use during workouts. So far I've only run on the treadmill, but I know that sometime I'm going to have to venture outside!
