IdahoDisneyMom's post about her DH doing the C25K program with her got me thinking. Does your spouse or significant other train or race as well?
My DH bikes and runs with me (Well he runs I wog), but won't swim with me. He does swim on his own but won't swim with the masters or tri team. However, he doesn't race. He has done a few indoor triathlons and one sprint, but won't do them again. He also has no desire to do any 5k or 10k unless the entire family is doing them as a charity event (Race for the Cure, Organ donation, etc).
Nope, no DH for races. he has recently joined me in a couple of short training runs as he has his PT test in August for the military. Would love it if he would be a regular runner with me but I don't see that happening. It would be nice to have him along for longer runs when I get back up there.
So funny that you mentioned me! DH runs a much quicker pace than I do. I told him that if he pulls ahead of me at the Castaway Cay run that's ok, but he better be there at the end cheering me on!
My DH plays hockey. That's his thing. But in the summer, he runs 1-2 miles about 3 days a week just to try and stay in shape. After 5 years now of listening to me talk about my races and watching the kids while I'm out running, he's decided to run a Half with me! We can't train together cuz someone's gotta watch the kids This will be his first Half. He has run some 5K's though. In like 21 minutes or something stupid like that. I tell him he will be bored running for 2 1/2 hours with me but he says he will stick with me! We shall see (on Sept 1) !

My DH does!! I told him he had to in the beginning cuz I didnt want to do races alone! Actually the first race we signed up for was Expedition Everest so I told him we were doing it as a team! I have run a few races alone since our first race, but I do like doing races together, it keeeps us more accountable and its something we do as a couple...something that we werent doing for many years with the kids being younger. But now they are old enough, its time for mom and dad to do stuff together again!!

It's been a while, but DH and I have raced together, twice at WDW and once at DL. I'm signed up for the 2013 marathon, and DH is hoping to use the half as a motivator to get running again. We did the C25K program together three years ago.

Summer 2013 pre-trip report here: So many celebrations!
Can't wait to get one of these!
My husband is a runner - captain of our college's XC team his senior year, even. I ran in HS, but only for fitness after that. So when I decided to do the Princess half as my first half marathon (first race over a 5k!), he made me a training plan. And since he was training with me, he decided to just sign up as well, so he was one of a few hundred men in the Princess half!
I'm glad he's athletic and supportive - I joined an adult field hockey league this spring after not having played since HS, and my husband picked up a used stick at Play it Again Sports and would go to the park with me to practice on weekends! I'm trying to convict him to join the league in the fall, haha. That said, I think he draws the line at doing ballet with me
My DH has run several 1/2 marathons with me @ Disney World (and elsewhere). He is MUCH faster than I am but wants to experience the race together. We try to train together a few days a week....especially on the weekends. He's been running for years but I just got the running bug in the last 18 months. Running Disney races keeps me inspired!!
For us, the question is better framed as "Do I race with DH?" We have both done runDisney races, but he has participated more consistently than I have -- I had a long hiatus from running after our kids were born, during which he ran 2 Goofy Challenges and the DL Half (as well as numerous local races).
Now that I'm back in my running shoes, we ran the Rock N Roll San Antonio half-marathon together in 2010, and we are both registered for the ToT 10-Miler in September. While we don't run at the same pace, I always like it when we can train for and do the races together, though it is trickier logistically since we have to get someone to watch our kids...
