Just wanted to stop in and say hi! My name is Darcy & I'm 32. Now that baby #2 is 18 months old I've decided it's time to get serious about losing that baby weight! We love Disney & have seasonal passes so I figured no better place than to start than a Disney race!
I've been looking for a board with other people that have run Disney to give me tips for it -- I will be running the 5k during the Princess Weekend at WDW & am just starting the Couch to 5k program. I'm curious -- I know I've seen notes about bringing your camera to snap pictures with characters, are there characters on the 5k's, or just the bigger races? Also, where do you carry your camera/phone? I'm all ears for any tips or tricks!! I officially registered tonight so there's no backing down now!!
Hi and welcome! I started jogging/running too after baby #3. Fair warning regarding runDisney races though - they're addicting!
As far as carrying camera/phone/kleenex/blistex/room key during the race, I have 2 belts. My first was the Amphipod Airflow:
And then a fellow runner turned me on to this little number after I told her the above one tends to bounce a little much for me. The iFitness double pouch:
In fact, I just got back from an 8 mile run this morning with the iFitness belt. They both work great! Fits everything you need.
As far as the 5K, I can't help you with what characters are out for that. This January will be my first Disney 5K! I've finished 6 Half's and 1 Full but not a single 5K yet! I imagine there's some good photo opportunities though!
Good luck training. While I didn't even know about C25K when I started, turns out I created my own program similar to the C25K. Stick with it and you will see some excellent results!
Any other questions, just fire away. We're a friendly bunch!

Welcome! I started running so I could do Disney races, too! And I started with the Couch to 5K program. I carry my camera, even for the 26.2 miles of the marathon! I just make sure I put my wrist through the strap so I don't have to slow down to pick it up when I drop it!
I've never done a Disney 5K, but I've heard that there are characters along the way. Good luck with your training!

Summer 2013 pre-trip report here: So many celebrations!
Can't wait to get one of these!
Hello and welcome! I'm a running newbie too. I've been at it a few weeks now, with my goals being to make exercise a habit, and to do the 5k on Castaway Cay next summer! I'm using Couch to 5k. Good luck getting started, and deciding which Disney run to shoot for!
I did Expedition Everest in May and I was a bit dissapointed with how few characters they had on the course. I think that there was a total of three. Mickey and Minnie were there, but they were up on a vehicle so you couldnt get your picture taken with them if you wanted to. I thought that there were going to be more, but alas....
I also thought that they were going to have like a mini Expo there...sadly they didnt.
I will admit that Im totally jealous of you doing the 5K during the Princess Half weekend! There are so many activites and things to do! Im still thinking about signing up for the Princess Half, Im signed up to do the Wine and Dine, want to wait and see how that goes before I sign up to do another half!
Whe we signed up for EE I was so excited and scared at the same time! My first official 5K! There was no backing down now! But we did it and we survived! Now I decided to kick it up a notch and sign up for the Wine and Dine and Tanya is right! It is very addicting!
Dont give up with your training! You can do it!!! We are here if you need us!

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! I forgot the website and had to wait to get back on my desktop so I could visit via my bookmark!
I am on week 2 of the C25K and loving it -- almost wish I had signed up for something a little sooner than the princess 5k but oh well!! I am also almost done with my Rapunzel costume for the race -- I'm making my own tutu! Hoping to shed a few lbs. between now and then though so I am making myself wait to finish it off, hoping I can trim down the elastic waistband and resize it.
