Re: The trip that almost wasn\'t - day 1

OK, day 2. After coughing almost all night, I managed to drag myself out of bed at 7:30. Got in the shower and when I got out, dd was awake. I went to say "good morning" and....nothing. I mean NOTHING. Not even a squeak. I cleared my throat and tried again. Nada. OK, maybe a cup of hot coffee would help. Nope. Well, by that time dd was very confused to say the least. She speaks quietly a lot of times and I say "speak up!" so she starts yelling "speak up Mama!!!" I tried to explain to her in my whispering voice that my voice must have gotten lost last night. She kind of understood, but she also looked for my voice - under the bed, in the closet, etc. Too cute!

We headed out early and went to the Boardwalk Bakery for a cinnamon roll and some chocolate milk. Thank goodness there were only a few people in there or the CM would have never been able to hear my order. It was very good, not as good as Main Street Bakery, but what are you going to do? The best part of course, is sitting outside on the Boardwalk watching the birds and the water and feeling that cool morning air.

We headed over to International Gateway and waited to enter Epcot. After entering, we headed directly to Soarin'. We walked right on. It's my dd's favorite ride by far. After we rode, the CM's were telling people they could ride again if they wanted since the Fastpass line was empty. So, we did. We then headed to see Figment. Much to dd's dismay, Figment was not working this morning. So, we did our traditional email photo postcard in the Kodak place. We then played in the fountains a bit and headed for Character Connection. No line again. We saw the fab 5, Chip and Dale and King Louie. Photopass at every stop, which I thought was kind of unecessary, but we did it anyway. We then walked out into the Flower and Garden Festival welcome center/shopping area. I bought a toothpick holder with the festival logo and dd got her face painted. She LOVED it, but would be absolutely mortified later when she found out it wasn't permanent!

We visited Minnie's Butterfly Garden and dd got to hold a butterfly on her finger. Very cool. We then saw all the topiaries in Future World and grabbed a bite to eat at the Electric Umbrella. I actually got the kids turkey pinwheels which proved to be just enough for my non-existent appetite. We then went around WS one more time to catch the topiaries that we missed the night before.

We decided to take a break mid-day. We walked back to BWV and dd just had to go swimming. So, we did. (I still didn't have my voice back by the way.)

We had a 5:00 ADR at The Plaza so we headed to MK. Thank goodness I allowed an hour to get there by bus because we needed it. Bus service was a little slow at BWV.

MK was not crowded at all! We were seated right away. Our server was a little confused by my pointing at the menu and trying to squeak out a whisper, but I think I managed OK. I got the veggie sandwich with tomatoes, cucumbers, mozerella cheese and sweet potato chips and a tall glass of iced tea. Dd had the peanut butter and jelly that comes in the shape of Mickey's head which delighted her. Dinner was good and inexpensive, but again, no voice and not much of an appetite, so I was glad I didn't reserve LTT or CP!

We walked on Buzz, Teacups, grabbed a FP for Peter Pan, walked on Small World, the carousel, Philharmagic and dd played in Pooh's Playful Spot while I had a little break. We then used our FP for Peter, even though the line wasn't bad, it's still a long line. I wanted to ride POTC, so we headed over that way. Walked on that too! After that, I decided that what my throat needed was a Dole Whip! So, I managed to get a Dole Whip float and head back to Dumbo. We were hoping to ride Dumbo as Wishes was going off. We got our wish. I kept looking at my watch and thinking that it was going to be so cool and it was. As soon as the ride before us stopped, Wishes started. We got to see fireworks and ride at the same time and that was really neat. We watched the rest from Fantasyland. It was a perfect ending to an exhausting but fun filled day.

I decided that rather than fight the crowds on Main Street, we would walk through Frontierland and around. I then decided to stop into the First Aid station and see if they had any magical potion to bring back my voice. Unfortunately, the best she could offer was salt water gargles and some throat lozenges. Oh well. She was very nice though and it passed a little time to let Main Street clear a little. We walked down Main Street and said goodbye to our Magic Kingdom for another 6 months. When we got back to BWV, I bought some NyQuil. Needless to say, I finally got a good nights sleep.

Next up, our last day - breakfast at 1900 for my birthday.

Re: The trip that almost wasn\'t - day 1

Day 3 - Our final day and my birthday breakfast with Mary and friends

We woke up this morning bright and early. I wanted to enjoy a little more time at our home away from home. I was so sad that we were leaving today and that I was so sick the entire time. But, dd declared it a "great trip" and that's all that matters. We took our time gathering up our belongings and packing our suitcases. We sat out on the balcony and just tried to burn the view into our memories.

When it was time to check out and head to breakfast, I loaded up the suitcases onto the stroller and off we went. The valet retrieved our car, loaded our bags and off we went to the TTC. Now, I wanted to ride the monorail, so that is the only reason we parked at the TTC. Otherwise we would have went directly to the Grand Floridian. Well, what a walk! We got the last space at the end of a row. Now, normally it wouldn't have bothered me, but I was having a hard time catching my breath this morning. Yes, still sick, still no voice. We trudged on and caught the tram. They were checking park passes at the TTC, which I thought was strange. I just told the CM that we were going to the GF and she said OK, fine and let us through.

There was already a family piloting the monorail, so we got a seat way in the back. I just love riding the monorail. It's so classic. We rode the whole loop and then got off the second time around. We arrived at the GF and had some time to shop before breakfast. We went to the gift shop and dd bought a Snow White poly pocket set. I bought a silver Mickey charm for my necklace and a few other small things.

We got to see the beginning of the Perfectly Princess Tea Party from the lobby. Looks like quite the production! Dd enjoyed seeing all the little girls in their dresses.

We were seated promptly at 10:50. We tried to eat, but again, I had no appetite. I did have a Mickey waffle, a cheese blintz, some fruit and strawberry soup. The only thing I could talk dd into was ice cream! Since I felt so bad and couldn't talk, I didn't mention it to the server that it was my birthday. I just didn't feel like celebrating much. But, my dd remembered and wished me a happy birthday and that's all that mattered.

We finally got to see the characters, all in a row. First Tigger, then Pooh. They seemed kind of rushed. Then we got our real treat. The Mad Hatter. He was so funny! He said hello and when I tried to squeak out the words, he said "oh my goodness, what's the matter?" I told him in a whisper that I had lost my voice. He immediately commented on how sad that was and insisted that he and dd go find it! Alice then came up and asked what was going on. He told her that I had lost my voice and that they simply must find it. By that time, the restaurant was pretty empty since we had a late seating. So, Alice, the Mad Hatter and dd when around searching under tables and chairs looking for my voice. This went on about 4 or 5 minutes I guess, me just smiling the whole time. Finally they came back and apologized profusely for not being able to find it. The one time I don't bring my video camera. UGGGH!

We didn't see Mary, so I figured she wasn't there today. We walked out and started to walk away. Then I heard this faint "yoo hoo". We turned around and it was Mary! She was in her holiday dress and dd just ran up to her. She was really nice, and of course, dd was her shy self, not wanting to talk. She does that with just about all of the characters - acts very shy and then chatters up a storm when we leave them.

We decided that since I felt so bad, we would not try to go to MGM that day. That was the plan, just to do a few things and then leave, but I couldn't handle it. So, we went back to the TTC, made one last stop in the gift shop there for another pin and left Walt Disney World with tears in my eyes as usual.

Looking back and looking at our pictures, we really did have a good time, despite my being super sick. I am really looking forward to our October trip and will keeping my fingers crossed that everyone stays healthy next time!
