| The trip that almost wasn\'t - UPDATED with day 3 on page 3 A little background - I went on a trip with my mom, dad and dd to visit my grandfather in Georgia. I couldn't get that close to WDW and not make a short trip right? So, I planned on a 2 and a half day trip to Disney to get my fix. My parents then decided to spend a few days in Charleston, SC and Savannah before heading to Grandpa's. I got sick 4 days before the trip and it just kept getting worse. But, I headed out for the 10 hour drive to Charleston anyway, thinking I'd surely be better in time to do Disney. Boy, was I wrong! We rented the car in Charleston on Monday. I was definately sick, but determined to take dd to Disney for a few days. I was coughing like I had TB, dizzy and really tired. But I was going come heck or high water. Dd and I packed up the car and headed to Florida early Tuesday morning. We made it to the Boardwalk around 3:00 pm. I arrived at the entrance, popped the trunk, Bell Services whisked away my luggage and the Valet took the car. It was so nice to have such great service. We checked in and were asked if we would mind a handicapped room. Any room would be great at that point! Heck, I would have taken a broom closet! We were in our 3rd floor, Luna Park Pool view room by 3:25. I was miserable, but determined to make the best of things. The room was very nice. King size bed, zero entry shower, microwave, coffee maker, nice fridge, toaster, everything we needed. Our luggage was sent up right away. The Bell Services CM even offered to call a physician for me since I was coughing my head off when he came with the luggage. I declined, but thanked him very much for his concern. Dd saw the pool from the balcony and insisted that we go swimming. I thought OK, she can splash around in the kiddie pool while I soak in the sun. Well, it was hot. Unseasonably hot, 92 degrees, even hotter by the pool. So, we went for a dip in the big pool so I could cool off. After about an hour, I was ready to rest, so we went back to the room. I debated skipping Epcot that night, but decided I could do it. We got dressed, I put dd in the stroller (thank God for the stroller!) and off we went. We caught the boat to Epcot and entered through the International Gateway after exchanging my AP renewal vouchers. We explored the World Showcase until it was time for dinner. The Flower and Garden Festival was neat, but not as grand as I had expected. We took lots of topiary pictures and I enjoyed watching dd play in the Home Depot kids display. We checked in at Biergarten for our 7:00 dinner. They were turning people away with no ADR's. This was a Tuesday night at 7:00 and the park was not crowded at all. So, take that as a hint - make ADR's! Dinner was great. I had no appetite, but tried to enjoy it. Dd loved dancing with her little boy friend that she met at the table. He asked her to dance and it was so cute!! He was 6, she is 5. Priceless. After we ate, we went outside to get a spot for Illuminations. We sat near Germany and the view was pretty good from there. Like I said, not crowded at all so we had lots of space which I am not used to at Illuminations. Of course, I cried as always. After that, we decided to walk back to BWV. It was a nice, short walk. That was the best part of staying at BWV. We checked out the General Store and bought a few things. Did I mention that we had NO room in my mom and dad's car, so I couldn't buy very many goodies? A definate change for me! So, it was back to the room for a good nights rest (didn't happen, coughed all night!) So, that was day one. Fun and too fast, but I was happy to be at Disney and hoped that day 2 would be better (wishful thinking). I'll give you a hint about day 2 - have you ever been at Disney with laryngitis? I mean complete, totally could-not-talk-a-bit laryngitis? Well, I can say now that I have!!!! |
