| Re: The \"I Survived the Seventh Grade\" Trip - Pre-Trip Report I'm Just Here For The Food... I’ll admit it… I plan where I’m going to be based on restaurants. Yep, I’ve just about memorized Deb’s menus, I’ve gazed at the food porn pictures on the Dis, and Our Laughing Place food reviews make me smile. So it’s no coincidence that I can tell you with greater certainty where I’ll be eating than what ride I’ll be riding. Food just happens to be in my blood. I grew up with a French dad who owned a restaurant so let’s just say food of any nature is kind of a hobby or obsession . I collect cookbooks, remember friends from their recipes rather than pictures, and kind of like shopping in large grocery stores. My record is three hours at Harris Teeter! But I digress… I am planning on doing a review for each restaurant with pictures. There’s just something about actually seeing what you’re getting. I know for us, pictures not only whetted our appetite for what was to come, it gave us an idea on portion sizes. DH and I typically share large meals so it wound up saving us money. So here’s the list. It has been amended a tiny bit, but overall I’m pretty excited with it! Here goes… 29th- 'Ohana for our first dinner back at the World. I’m planning on marking my return with the great food here and DH thinks he can handle one of those cute drinks in the pineapple. I told him many have said it packs a punch, but he’s convinced it’s the way to go. Me? A creamy pina colada thanks. If you happen to catch the fella on the monorail singing “La Vida Loca” say hi to us. 30th- This is our Sea World Day. We’ve got a 3:45 reservation for dinner with Shamu. 3:45 kind of qualifies for a late lunch, but no worries I can roll with it. 31st- We’re giving Peco's Bill's a whirl for lunch and the Garden Grill a try at Epcot. This is the first of the buffets in what will be forever known as “The Year of The Buffet”. 1st- Beaches And Cream tops our list today for an ice cream treat and our absolute favorite Biergarten is one we’re looking forward to. Let me set the scene for you. You see, last year, our waiter mistakenly brought DH a liter of beer instead of a half liter. Judge the progression for yourself… Here are the pictures… I still smile when I see these. DH doesn't see the humor. 2nd- Tusker House for lunch today and Boma for a late dinner. I’ve heard so much about this place I’ve got to give it a try. One of my students told me that the zebra domes are fantastic. I’ll give them a try, in the name of research, of course. 3rd- Cosmic Ray’s is a possibility for lunch, but we’re booked at Tony’s for dinner. I’m a bit nervous because it has kind of a shaky reputation. It’s right before my favorite parade, SpectroMagic, so I’m hoping for a great evening. 4th- Everyone’s talking about Earl of Sandwich in DD, so I’m heading here on our DD day. I love Wolfgang Puck’s restaurants so I’m hoping to score big with the Café for dinner. Hopefully they’ll have the apple martini I love… 5th- The Studio Catering Company’s Mediterranean flavor is right up my alley and I have that penciled in for lunch. Dinner is the one I’ve been quaking in my boots for since DH insisted on going, 50’s Prime Time Cafe . It is his vacation too after all and not asking a lot to get to choose ONE place to eat. I’m mourning no Mama’s this time, but I’ve received assurances that if I behave, the antics are mild. I have no desire to be put in a corner, to have someone feed me, etc. “But why are you going if not for the antics?” The food! Duh. (Sorry I seemed to have channeled an eighth grade girl in my first period class, OMG I'm becoming one of them… ) 6th- Ethan’s 9th birthday! Both boys get to pick a day to do what they want to do this time. Ethan is spending his birthday at Typhoon Lagoon and at Hoop Dee Doo for dinner. We loved this slapstick comedy show and the food isn’t bad either! 7th- This is an open day for whatever. We’re starting it off with Richard Petty’s Driving Experience for the DH. The rest of the day is open dining wise to whatever our hearts desire. (I secretly have an agenda to eat at the Tangerine Café , but shhh. Don’t tell DH.) 8th- Although we’ll have plenty of opportunities to lounge by a pool, we’ve allotted a full day to explore OKW and its pool area. We will probably visit Beach Club as that’s next on our list to stay at and we’ll finish the night off at Cape May Café . Yep, another buffet. 9th- My favorite Flame Tree BBQ is up next for lunch at AK followed by hopefully a stellar experience at Flying Fish Café . 10th- Two words today- California Grill ! I’ll eat nothing (or little nibbles) until its time. 11th- Back to ‘Ohana for breakfast this time as Colin celebrates his birthday. (It’s actually not until the 22nd, but we can’t let Ethan have all the fun.) Lilo and Stitch will start our day and then it’s off to either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. Dinner is at my personal favorite, Spoodles . I can almost taste the sangria now… 12th- Whispering Canyon Café for dinner so Ethan can have his WL fix. Seriously, he loves this place so much, he wants to decorate his room to look like it. Well, that’s it. We fly out pretty early on the thirteenth, so no time for a quick breakfast before we go. Look for my dining reports in the Feasting and Snacking Forum after our return on June 20th. Up Next… The Schedule…or lack thereof … |

| Re: The \"I Survived the Seventh Grade\" Trip - Pre-Trip Report Claudine - 2 weeks at WDW! I'm so jealous. Have a great trip! You deserve it after the year you've had. Your restaurant choices look fantastic. Buffet's with kids are great. They can get up and move around and if they take something they don't like, they can go back for something else. I can't wait to read your reviews. |
