The \"I Survived the Seventh Grade\" Trip - Pre-Trip Report (Updated 5/16) Welcome to my first full-length trip report! Let me introduce myself and my family: Our Party: DH, Ted, (WeatherTed), 39, Hard-Working National Weather Service meteorologist, Converted Roller Coaster Rider, Consumer of Anything Except Celery Me, Claudine, (WDWJAMBA), 36, Dedicated Teacher and daily survivor of middle school, Aspiring WDW food critic, The Original Roller Coaster Freak DS1, Ethan, 8, Roller Coaster Enthusiast-in-Training, Loyal WL lover, Picky eater of the bunch, and vanilla fanatic DS2, Colin, 5, Never met a dessert he didn’t like, Future Big Thunder Mountain Railroad CM, extreme chocolate fanatic Here are our intrepid travelers now: Our Journey: Dates: 5/29-6/13; A visit with “The Grandmas” follows our WDW vacation which will take us to NY until 6/20. Our Lodging: OKW (Our first trip as DVC members!) At the tail end of our last trip, as we sat on the benches outside the immense WL waiting to be picked up, DH and I sprang it on the boys. A DVC membership means we’ll be back next year. (And the year after that and the year after that…see where this is going?) What more can you ask for than to always have a vacation on the horizon? It made the ride home easier to bear after one of the best vacations we’ve ever had. The mouse ears were put up, waiting for a whole year to run its course before being dusted off and packed up. Although we had the greatest experience at the Wilderness Lodge with its warm woods, cedar smell, and cozy nooks, we decided to go in a different direction this year. I longed for the sway of palm trees, island flavor, and conch fritters! Ethan was somewhat disappointed that we wouldn’t be staying at his beloved Wilderness Lodge, but I am convinced that each one of these hotels has something grand to offer if you’re in the right frame of mind to experience it. Old Key West seemed the natural selection to make as the whole island theme was right up my alley. So, with that in mind, I set off to start another school year and to plan another great trip to WDW. Little did I know planning the trip would be the easy thing to accomplish. Surviving the seventh grade would be my greatest challenge. In what has been termed, “The Worst Class in 25 Years”, they have been frustrating, ill-mannered, ill-behaved, and immature. Does that about sum it up? I would likely volunteer that they made this year worse than my first year of teaching. I went from a person who could verbalize how lucky I was to be doing what I loved to do, to a person who counted the minutes until I could go home to my family. I’ve been yelled at, argued with, bullied, and harassed. The trip seemed farther away than ever and I spent the greater part of the school year questioning whether I wanted to come back to teaching. Little by little, the Passporter boards and reading other trip reports got me through the long wait until I could say our trip was coming nearer. DH booked our stay at OKW in February asking for a non-smoking room due to allergies and added an additional request to be near a pool so that laundry would be easier to do. We opted not to get a rental car despite some recommendations because we’re hoping that the bus service will be just fine. We’ve reserved Tiffany Town Cars to not only serve as airport transportation, but also to run us over to Sea World for a day of fun with Shamu. Let’s hope that everything goes well! Up Next: I’m just here for the food…

Re: The \"I Survived the Seventh Grade\" Trip - Pre-Trip Report Wonderful start to your pre-trip report! You're going to love OKW. We stayed there for the first time last November and really enjoyed it. And we found the bus transportation there to be very good. Make sure you try the boat ride to Downtown Disney - it's really lovely! Joy

Re: The \"I Survived the Seventh Grade\" Trip - Pre-Trip Report Wonderful start to the trip report. And as the parent of a 7th grader, let me personally thank you for teaching the little "darlings"! You couldn't pay me enough money to be a middle school teacher! I am truly amazed whenever I visit my kids school at the types of things the staff has to deal with. I know there are good kids out there. I've had them in my scout troops before. But unfortunately, you have to deal with all of them when you're a teacher. Can't wait for the rest of the report!
