| Re: Birthday, F&G Festival and Passporters!!! May 28 to June 3 DAY ONE Monday, Memorial Day, May 29, Day Two: Part 4 Can I Have Your Job PLEASE?? As many of you know I love animals. My life revolved around animals. I have worked around animals since I was very young even though my parents are NOT animal people at all, I have my BS in Animal Science, I have worked on more farms then “real” places of employment, I would rather spend a day sloshing through the mud on a farm then work in an office (although the office pays more) and I work as a pet sitter (part-time) and for the Dairy Association (full-time). Needless to say animals are my life. I would LOVE to work for Busch in some “animal” capacity but for some reason they require you to have a SCUBA certificate. Because I have inner ear problems I can not SCUBA dive, I could lose my hearing or worse drown because I might get vertigo. It totally amazes me and makes me inspired when I see the connection a wild animal has with their handler. Actually it makes me alittle misty. Sandy and I waited with a huge crowd of people outside of Shamu Stadium. This was an hour before the show. Keep in mind on the maps it states that you should be at the show at least 45 minutes before Showtime to ensure you get a seat. We were told by other guests at the park that the Shamu shows were filling up WAY before Showtime. We decided to get there early. We waited and waited and waited at the middle tunnel. I made small talk with the people around us as we waited. About a half hour (maybe alittle less) before the show they finally let us in. Sandy found us a seat in what I later discovered was the splash zone. When I discovered where we were sitting she said, “Oh, don’t worry, we won’t get wet here. Look the camera is right behind us they would never get the camera wet.” I looked back at the camera and noticed that it was covered in plastic! I looked at the floor under us it wasn’t that wet. Just to be safe I turned around and asked the camera guy (who was pretty nice looking and had an Australian accent) if we were going to get wet where we were sitting. He assured us that we were okay, but if we were about 2 seats over we might have a problem! The show started right on time. At this point the anticipation was building. I love orca, they are such beautiful animals…majestic and mysterious. The name of the show is “Believe”. They use videos and actors to explain the story of a boy who believed that his dream of working with orca would someday come true…of course it did and the boy became a man who worked at Sea World with “Shamu” and his friends. It was a very inspiring story that made me think. I could TOTALLY do this type of work with my experience and education. By the end of the show I was in tears. It really breaks my heart that I am not out in the trenches every day doing what I love…training animals. Sadly what you want to do and what you have to do to support yourself are two different things. Okay I will stop whining now Oh yeah…the splash zone! We didn’t get very wet, just a sprinkle. The camera man was right. The guy two people down got wet on one side and the people in the middle were so wet they were dripping! The orca came up on the platform and slide and made a HUGE wave soaking everyone in the middle from row 1 to the top of the section! The orca also used their tailed in the pool to slash the crowd I have two photos of that one before the slash and one after. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After the show Sandy was done. She said she had enough and didn’t want to stay. We had planned on going to the final Shamu show for the day. I asked if we could go over and see the polar bears before we left. We walked over to Artic Encounter only to find the line for the “non ride” to be 30 minutes long. Sandy was NOT waiting. I still wanted to go so she sat on a bench and waited for me. The movie was just like the ride except without the simulator (thank goodness). You are suppose to be on a helicopter landing in the artic. After the movie we were hearded into the exhibit. There are not guides in there and very few signs to show you were you are suppose to go or what you are suppose to be seeing. I found the underwater viewing. There were two polar bears swimming around. I took a few photos but they didn’t come out. I did not see the polar bears in the above water exhibit. I met Sandy out front. When leaving I was planning on coming back for the fireworks show Mistify. By the time we got back to Sandy’s condo I decided not to go back to Sea World. We called my parents and chatted for a bit. I left just after 8:30 and decided to look around Downtown Disney before I met up with Jana and Amy. NEXT: The Horse, The Cow and the Scotsman |

| Re: Birthday, F&G Festival and Passporters!!! May 28 to June 3 DAY ONE I am catching up on your TR. We haven't been to Sea World in a few years, so it is nice reliving it through your eyes. We LOVED Clyde and Seamore...too funny. Sorry about the birds. We have a miniature macaw and have a great love for them. I would have loved them flying over my head. My sister is like you, though...terrified of birds, especially in flight! Looking forward to more! Laura |
