| Back to the fun part of the Pre-Trip Report: Where to Eat and Dining Plan or No Dining Plan Thank you all for you sympathy and support. I really appreciate it. Writing this actually has helped me get some of my enthusiasm for the trip back. So, thanks for reading! First I need to say that Britton is a good cook. A really good cook. And he loves to cook. He likes to serve meals that have courses, loves to try new recipes, and goes for the really challenging stuff. I on the other hand would live on pasta and sauce from a jar if it weren’t for him. I do, however like to eat what he makes . We’re a good match! But, since he likes to cook, it makes it difficult for him to find a restaurant he likes. He has high standards. On our previous trips to WDW, he had no trouble finding restaurants that met his high standards. We had some of the best meals we’d ever had on our 2000 trip. Our favorites were: Flying Fish, California Grill, Hollywood Brown Derby, Artist Point, and Victoria and Albert’s. Approaching food on this trip was a bit of a challenge, because you’ll notice one thing all of the above restaurants have in common. They’re all fine dining . Not exactly the place to bring the kids—I know we could, but they wouldn’t be able to appreciate the food or the ambiance so, neither would we. Not that our kids aren’t good in restaurants most of the time, we just like to put them in settings where the odds are in their favor. So, we needed to change our approach to eating at WDW and find places that would suit Britton’s (and my) high standards and the kids kid standards. We pored over the Passporter and the Unofficial Guide and this board to make our choices and, with very little ado, here’s what we decided (We’re eating breakfast in the room unless otherwise noted): Monday (Epcot (WS): Lunch: Tangierine Café Dinner: Rose and Crown (hopefully with a view of Illuminations) Tuesday (Epcot (FW)): Breakfast: Askershus—Princesses Lunch: Sunshine Seasons Dinner: Coral Reef or Le Cellier (I’ll explain this one in another post) Wednesday (Magic Kingdom): Breakfast: Kona Café Lunch: Columbia Harbor House Dinner: Terrace Noodle Station Thursday (a no park day) Breakfast: Whispering Canyon Café Lunch: ????? Dinner: Boma Friday (Animal Kingdom): Lunch: Tusker House Dinner: Cinderella’s Gala Feast—Cinderella !!!!!! (Abigail’s favorite) Saturday (Magic Kingdom and departure day) We don’t have any meals planned, but if anyone has a suggestion for a good place for lunch there, we’d be interested. It’ll be our last WDW meal. After these decisions were made, it was time to talk Dining Plan or not. I kept crunching the numbers but Britton and I couldn’t get together to look at them—I refer you back to the explanation of choosing the resort. So, the Dining Plan decision still wasn’t made when Britton called to book our resort and order our tickets. (He’s the phone call part of the operation.) He talked to the CM for about a half an hour and when he got off the phone he’d booked the Dining Plan . Not exactly scientific, but it suited me just fine. It’s nice to have the trip essentially paid for before we go! So, up next: How far can Abigail walk and where are we going to eat on Tuesday night (and why don't we know by now)? |
