Our land adventure started out as a question. Let me explain...
When we planned this trip, waaaay back when, we were planning on flying down Friday, May 4, and back home, Saturday, May 12th. Then we heard through the grapevine that a few of our favorite Passporters might possibly be at the World around that 3rd or 4th of May, and we thought about coming down a day early. Well, those dates were not going to work for said group, so we were back to plan A. Then the same grapevine informed us that quite possibly, that group might be down the weekend we were returning from the cruise. Hmmm...
So, I asked a simple question:
"If we decided to stay an extra day at WDW, would anyone possibly want to have dinner with us?"
That was all she wrote!
We were going to WDW and we would be hanging out with Bill, Jan and Donna!
A quick call to Member Services snagged us a Contemporary Tower Room with a Magic Kingdom view! Pricey points, but it was one night, and we wanted to splurge! I arranged the car rental, and a few hundred emails later, we had ADR's secured! We had decided to do Epcot that day. I had my AP, but Steve's had expired, and we weren't renwning till December, so he would only have a one park pass. But with the flower and garden show going on, and all the wonderful choices in Epcot, it seemed like a natural for us to pick!
So we picked up our car at Port Canaveral, and we were on our way!
Next...arriving at CR and Epcot, look out, we are coming!
We headed up the highway, and in no time at all, we were at the Portals of the Mouse! We sailed through the parking boots, past Wilderness Lodge, into the right lane, and into... a HUGE TRAFFIC JAM! I mean, stopped dead at the entrance to CR! Wow, there must be a bad accident up ahead. What is going on? Is the CR closed? We sat, inching up for over 30 minutes! When we finally got to the front, we were met by a CM who asked us where we were staying, etc. We told him we were checking in at the CR. He checked his list, and said OK. So we asked him what was going on (we were dead stopped again.) He explained to us that it was the triatholon today, and that everyone wanted to park at the CR and walk to the triatholon area. He said he had never seen it quite this bad, but they finally had to come out and verify IDs, etc, because the gate guards were getting overwhelmed and people were getting pretty irate when they found out they couldn't park there. This way, the non-resort guests were being headed off before they even got to the gate!
We are soooo here:
We got through the gate, and headed up to check in. We valet parked! I had packed all the stuff we needed in our small suitcase, so we were able to leve most of the luggage in the car. We grabbed that, and we went to check in. Check in was a breeze, and, our room was ready! We were also able to purchase Steve's ticket, and to print our boarding passes for our flight home tomorrow. Now, where else but Disney could you get service like that?
We headed up to the room. We were on the 6th floor, but we stopped at the Concourse level for a look around. Then it was up, up, and away:
We entered the room, and I couldn't get my key to work! This was my only complaint...the door locks/handles were a little strange, and difficult to open. I finally got it to work, and we were greeted with a room that made all those points used worthwhile:
The room:
The bathroom:
And I saved the best for last...the VIEW!!!
