Updated 9/28 Day 1 Part 3

We pulled up to the gate and mom and I asked the guy behind us to help us get our bags down and he was so nice he didn’t have any bags of his own (business traveler) and he helped us carry them off the plane and so we were the first few off the plane and we thanked him. Turns out he knew of my mom from her old job but not directly and so they spent a few minutes catching up while I ran to the ladies room. By the time I came out a few minutes later they were done and he had left so Mom and I headed to baggage claim. We picked up a smart Cart so that we could spend $3 instead of $10 on luggage assistance. We worried about our bags since we checked in so early but the buzzer went off and our bags were the 1st and 2nd bag out and so we were out and about sooner then anyone else! That was Quick!

We went to the elevator and headed down to the car rental counter floor and were walking towards Alamo when this guy who was behind us tried to race us to the counter. There was only 1 guy open so luckily I out raced him knowing my way to the counter and the zig zag line so we were signing paperwork long before the 2nd associate opened his counter for “mr. I’minsuchahurryi’llruntheseladiesover” guy got helped so Served him right the way he was trying to push ahead of us!
So since our paperwork was signed we headed over to the garage and over to Alamo’s convertible section and hoped that there were some there or at least not a crossfire like December as that definitely would have been a Luggage problem!

When we got to the spaces for convertibles we were relieved they had no crossfire’s, but 3 PT cruisers, 3 VW Bugs, and 1 Seabring Convertible. Well We first chose the red Bug and when the luggage didn’t fit went with the PT cruiser. We chose the closest one to the bug so we wouldn’t have to move the luggage too far. It was silver and we loaded the bags and looked at each other. Why you ask?

Well see this is the first trip we have taken where I am a authorized driver. I turned 25 in May and now we won’t have to pay a huge fee just because of my age. So now we had to choose who drove! I should mention that neither of us love to drive we usually bicker and argue at home when we are going somewhere together as to who will drive. Well I lost that set of Rocks paper scissors and took the keys and backed out of the space after having to adjust all the mirrors, the seat, the steering wheel for about 20 minutes Look out Florida and other tourists LOL

We handed in the rental agreement and car information and drove out to SR 417 south and got off the exit for International Drive and SR 536/535 and headed over to Publix. Mom ran inside to get soda and seltzer while I waited in the car. I parked and waited for her to come out but I didn’t see her and well she ended up getting angry because she had to stand out there for about 5 minutes OOPS! So after seeing her finally we took off for the hotel and decided to skip Sonic and eat at the hotels food court. We were tired and wanted to relax some before Pleasure Island that night.

We headed over to All Star Music our hotel for the night but ran into trouble when we found an intersection right by the OKW lighthouse was being worked on and had to detour all the way around property because we had gone through Downtown Disney instead of just going down 536 into Disney Property.

We go there soon enough and I was SOOOOOO excited now that we were finally at the hotel.

Up Next…A old classmate, our Room and our First night Monsoon!

I'm sorry i know how you all were looking forward to an update. I promise I'll get it up as soon as possible.

My Aunt Vi was of local fame for those in CT who listened to WTIC 96.5 Gary Craig is our Morning show host and tells a joke every thursday. My Aunt Vi would call every thursday to get the punchline and he would make her laugh on air because he loved her laugh. Over the years Gary has come, gone and come back to WTIC and has even done tv commercials that won Telly Awards. Well my Aunt was in those commericals and has been so proud of her "fame"

Here is a link to the commercials to at least give you something to watch while you wait . YouTube - The Laugher on Craig and Company

Sorry for the delay i hope to post it before the end of the weekend.
Sorry to hear about your Aunt's passing. I hope your family is coping well. I saw the YouTube Video and I thought she was fantastic in them.

Oh, and I've been reading your trip reports. DH and I are just like you--we cannot fall asleep the night before our flight. Though, this time--we'll be taking a red-eye flight so what we plan to do is to wake up at 3am so by the time our flight is around 10pm, we'll be asleep on the plan. At least, that's what we're hoping.

How cool to be old enough to drive without the huge excess payment Amy! Your description of getting ready to drive off sounds just like us every time we get a rental car in Orlando.

Updated 9/30 Day 1 part 4

We parked at the check in area and walked over to the door and I was on cloud 9 it was finally real! I had my paperwork and my purse but we weren’t going to use luggage assistance for the 1 night so we left the bags in the car.

We headed inside and I was in my happy place and didn’t notice the cast member who was doing a research study looking at me but my mom poked me and then he came over I was about to say “no thanks” when I realized it was Tim my ex boyfriend’s college room mate and who I was friends with at one time as well. He and I chatted for about 20 minutes about his new careers, and degrees, and life and mine as well. We exchanged phone numbers to try and meet up later in the week but to be honest I wasn’t that close to him that I felt the need to ummm call him during vacation But it was nice to see how he was doing after all this time.

We went up to the front desk and the Cast Member who was walking by must have seen me and Tim hug and he made a big production of saying how we couldn’t check in until he got his hug and threw his arms open so who was I to deny this absolutely adorable guy a hug So I hugged him and he and I chuckled and I walked over to the cast member who was free and started our check in process. Unfortunately with all the confusion I forgot to write down her name but she was just as funny. Tim tried to get us upgraded and I told them it wasn’t necessary its only a 1 night stay and we would be fine in any room. She found us a room in the Rock Inn Section and gave us directions to the room. Well we were getting keys made and papers signed when she said that our balance was the room and tax which I paid when I made the reservation. Well I told her I already paid and showed her the receipt and confirmation papers and she went over and the manager fixed our file. That was frustrating but it happens but reminded me why I keep everything printed and with me at all times! Organization and Disney Planning OCD comes in handy sometimes

We said our goodbye’s to her, the “I need a hug too” guy and Tim and headed over to the food court and had our dinner before going to the room. We were paying out of pocket for our meal tonight so we didn’t have to worry about credits, or charging to the room. We found a table and loved how it was set up at All Star Music. You didn’t have to fight through a gift shop, it was clean, and it wasn’t overly busy. Mom sat and waited while I went up and got my meal and then she went up to pick out what she wanted.

I had the Hot Italian Sandwich with Sweet Potato chips, and a Sprite, and mom had the half of a chicken rotisserie meal with green beans, and potato and a coke. My meal was 9.61 and mom’s was 10.64 so for about $21 we had our dinner. Both were very good and I was so excited that our first meal was my favorite dish at Disney! I love the Hot Italian Sandwich and it was great to have it right away!

We threw our garbage away and headed over to the car. The sky was overcast but I didn’t think it looked like rain but we were only going to the room how much trouble would it be in to have the top down. So I lowered it and drove over to the Rock Inn area and parked and as soon as we put it in park it started to rain so we quickly unloaded the car and then raised the top and locked it in place before it got too hard a rain.

We got everything out and shut before the monsoon started and well we got to our room which was luckily the first room on the corner so it was nice and close and realized that well we forgot something well MAJOR in all this rushing around. We forgot…..

Up Next …what did we forget and what do you want to do now?
