Awww...no worries. I have carefully picked out the pictures from this little adventure and have only picked good ones. Of course, a lot of them have one or more of us drinking something.

Day 4, Part 2: Karen's Secret Quest and the Photographic Evidence

Day 4, Part 2: Karen’s Secret Quest and the Photographic Evidence (No bad pics, I promise!! )

Let me preface this update as I know I have missed some things as not all the happenings are fresh in my mind. I’m sure my cohorts will chime in where need be. Also, there are other pictures from other participants that I hope will be shared here or in their reports.

I think it was one of the slowest boat rides to EPCOT that I have ever taken on one of the Friendship boats but we finally made it and got through the lines pretty quickly. I called Karen and arranged to meet her, Sharon, and Scarlett at the EPCOT Christmas tree. Along the way, Tiff and I decided to grab something to snack on as we hadn’t eaten anything all day and it was 3:30pm at this point. We stopped at a booth in Canada and picked up a pretzel. We arrived at our designated meeting spot and met Scarlett for the first time! She is just so darn cute and personable. I mean it! I also her accent!! We were waiting for Eileen to arrive as she had just arrived @ EPCOT and fighting the masses to get to us.

Once Eileen made it, Karen gave us an envelope. Scarlett pulled out the letter and started reading it to herself. After getting her to stop reading to herself and share it with the rest of us, we found out what we had to do and kind of talked about a game plan. Ok…well our game plan consisted of starting in Canada and ending in Mexico. Great game plan huh?

Eileen with “fear” in her eyes!

Here are some snippets from the Secret Quest document:
  • You must purchase a food or beverage product from each of the eleven pavilions at EPCOT.
  • All beverages must be alcoholic.
  • You can purchase no more than three food items. So, for the liberal arts majors, that would be at least eight alcoholic beverages.
  • Kaki Gori counts as a food item (and that might be a hint!)
  • “Extra” food stands (like the McDonald’s cart) will count for the country to which they are closest.
  • The $55 includes sales tax, i.e. that’s all you’re getting.
And the clincher :

“…I’ve provided an alternate way to fulfill the country requirement should you run out of money. You must find the best looking gent in the given country and get your lovely hostess (that would be me!) to take a picture of all five of you in the pucker up position. At least one of you must have contact between lips and cheek, which cheek is up to you. Because love, or at least harassment, should have no borders, you will also find eight language cards that will explain you mission for each country.”

We headed over to Canada to one of the drink/food carts and perused the menu to see what we could buy. We were finding that our $55 wasn’t going to go real far at these prices. We decided on a Canadian beer of some sort. Sharon was in charge of the money so she ordered and paid. Scarlett announced that she would take it upon herself to finish off the beers if no one else liked them for the good of a team. What a team player!!

Sharon making the first purchase

Passing around the first round!

Now we walked and talked on our way to the UK trying to decide where to buy food and where to by drinks. We made it to a food/drink booth and looked over the prices. I believe it was here that Eileen came up with a beeeeaaauuutiful plan of buying some of the 50 cent chocolate pieces in France as one of our food items and would be cost effective too. We split up while Eileen, Karen, and Scarlett bought our beverage in the UK, Sharon, Tiff and I headed to France to look for the chocolate.

It took us a bit to find the store that actually had the chocolates Eileen spoke of, and it wasn’t until the rest of the group arrived that they were found. We bought a dark and milk chocolate piece, paid 50 cents for each one and off we went to the next pavilion, Morocco. We decided to use another one of our food credits here and purchased a piece of baklava.

If I am remembering correctly, I believe this is where we first told some innocent bystanders of our quest. I think there were a couple that wanted to join until they heard we were on a budget. After partaking in the baklava, we headed over to Japan where we decided on some plum wine. Sharon got carded at the cart while making the purchase.

Miss Sharon getting carded.

Trying out the Plum Wine!

Here is where we decided to come up with a game plan for the rest of the countries as we were getting low on the monetary funds. We knew a beer was our next purchased in the American Adventure. We also knew that Italy was surely going to have some fine looking CMs, but also had the Italian Margarita. We split up again. I believe Eileen, Karen, and Tiff went to get the beer, and Sharon, Scarlett, and I went in search of an Italian gent.

The three of us headed over to Italy and started wandering through the stores looking for a gent that would fit the bill for our task. Unfortunately, we were having an issue finding said gent as all the CMs in the store were women. We figured we would just get an Italian Margarita and wait for the others to catch up. We made our way to the drink booth and saw that there were some CMs of the male persuasion working it. Well, Scarlett checked them out (and you know you did  ). She gave the nod and we waited until the line had basically disappeared before approaching the CM. The other girls arrived as we needed everyone there. Scarlett handed over our card in Italian explaining our quest.

The pictures above did not capture their reaction as it was priceless. The nervous laughter of the CM made it even better but he agreed to participate.

Karen got a picture of all us I believe with the CM (whose name I have forgotten). We decided to go ahead and get the Italian Margarita as well. It became a quick favorite of Sharon, Eileen, and I. I’ll be hitting this booth in the future for sure!!

Sharon enjoying the Italian Margarita!!

Scarlett posing victoriously with the Italian Card (and the Sam Adams beer)

We headed over to Germany and decided on a German wine here. Eileen, who has never met a stranger, struck up a conversation with the people in line behind us. She told them of our quest and they said they were drinking around the World as well. They had started in Mexico. They were a hoot and wished us luck on our mission. We finished off the wine pretty quickly but I believe we were still milking the margarita at that point too.

At this point, we had three countries left and only $12 and change. A decision had to be made. Eileen stated the Norwegian men are also nice looking, so we might want to consider using one of our cards there. We all agreed on that. Eggrolls would be purchased in China, which left just enough for a margarita in Mexico. We headed toward China and to purchase some eggrolls.

After devouring the eggrolls, we had a potty break and then headed over to Norway to find a nice looking CM. We found a couple and handed over our card to explain our mission. The first Cm didn‘t speak Danish (I believe that is what this card was in.) so he pulled someone else over and then a third person. The Norwegian boys didn’t want to play along in our game at all. I believe our hostess, Miss Karen, got a group picture of us.

Now, it was onto Mexico to those wonderful Margaritas! We purchased the wonderful beverage. I believe Eileen purchased an extra and lost some money in the process. Then Karen handed us our prizes for completing the task at hand. We all received an awesome margarita glass that was engraved with “EPCOT Lush Club—Charter Members”. We divided the margarita between us and got a final group picture. Our hostess has this one too! Karen did a spectacular job on this quest and many thanks go out to her in including us on this little adventure. We had a blast! It is something I will never forget!!

The CLT had dinner at the Biergarten and then CP, Scarlett needed to head back to her family, and Tiff and I had dinner at Mexico, so we parted ways for the time being.

Coming Up: A Meal at the Inn, PP Illuminations Meet, and a Mug Shot

Ooooh... I think there is more... much, much more to be added to this tale of debauchery! (Especially as, the farther we walked around the world, the more my Irish cheeks were glowing red and our steps began to weave and sway. )

I have some funny things to add, including (I think) some pictures. I'll try to do this after work today.

Mean ol' work... keeping me from PassPorter fun.

Ya know, I heard a rumor that WDW is ready to announce a new EPCOT tour, called LUSH CLUB - Spirits around the World! Instead of a pin at the end of the tour all participants will be rewarded with an engraved glass. Hey, this sounds too, too familiar. You guys need to copyright this tour and get some residuals from Disney!!!

Loved the update and will be looking forward for other versions of this episode.

Of course I love this update. Considering that there's nothing you could do about my pasty paleness, I appreciate you not posting any super embarrassing photos. I love the picture of Eileen tasting the beer whilst holding her nose.

What a fun afternoon! I'm so proud to be a fellow charter member of the Epcot Lush Club.
