| Andrew must have been thrilled with that backstage tour! And both of them must have been thrilled with their gifts from Heather. Too cute that Izzy never put that Minnie down.

| What a great start and what wonderful surprises! I know exactly where you were backstage because those places are on the Backstage Magic Tour (if anyone is interested in seeing them). I love Jiko, too, and am looking forward to hearing about your meal.

| Day One/Part Three… We all piled into the Durango for our quick trip to the Animal Kingdom Lodge and believe me; the eight of us were very cozy in that truck! Now, those who remember my previous TRs, the AKL is a place that has been slowing growing on me. Well, I think today….it finally found its place in my heart. When we first entered, it was still bright outside and I really was able to see the expansive and impressive lobby with the light flooding through the huge rear windows. It was funny, I always felt the Lodge was so dark and eerie, today it was simply beautiful. My parents, whom had never been, were simply in awe and took some time exploring the artifacts in the lobby before we headed down to Jiko. We had a 5:30 ADR as I figured we all would want an early evening after the early start to the day. We checked in and were seated in moments at a lovely table in the middle of the main level of the restaurant. My family didn’t even have to take a second look at the menu; we all knew exactly what we were ordering. However, in all fairness to my parents and in-laws, we allowed them adequate time to peruse the menu and ask our server questions. Meal selections included appetizers of…. *Taste of Africa Sampler *Cucumber, Red Onion and Watermelon Salad *Asparagus Soup In between, we were treated to the most amazing ‘intermezzo’. Suddenly, our server comes out with mini glasses of mango sorbet. Wow, this sorbet was so amazingly fragrant and really embodied the true taste of the fruit…I felt like I was slurping on a piece of mango! What could be better, you ask? Well, for those adults who were drinking alcohol (parents and in-laws), their sorbet was swimming in a pool of vodka! They proclaimed this heavenly. Main Courses…… *Chermoula Roasted Tanglewood Chicken *Oak Grilled Filet Mignon *Pan Roasted Jumbo Scallops *Kenyan Coffee BBQ Braised Short Ribs What can I say? The food here is top notch and wonderful, the flavor combinations are unique and wonderful. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable. Jiko is definitely a place serious foodies should not miss. It is, hands down, my kids’ current favorite place. I am sorry I don’t have actual food pics for this TR but I was just enjoying myself and trying to go with the flow. However, a few pics Izzy took during dinner. ![]() ![]() Afterwards, it was still light out, so my kids took their grandparents on a tour of the savannahs and the pool area. ![]() ![]() Notice, my almost thirteen year old son is now....seven inches...taller than me! Well, that little tour combined with our wonderful meal and my new love of the lobby sealed it….I promised the kids right then and there that on our next stay, we would try out the AKL! (Although, I also added it may be a split stay). My kids were ecstatic and reminded me that they would not forget this promise. We strolled a bit more outside and then through the lobby before heading out but not before touching the door for good luck! We piled back in the truck and back to the GF. Since we had walked a bit and theoretically ‘burnt off dinner’, we made our way up to the concierge lounge for a little evening treat. As I sat there, surrounded by my wonderful family, I had to pinch myself…the first day of this crazy trip had gone amazingly well. I think, I even started to relax, just a bit. Tomorrow was a very big day but I was determined to put it out of my mind and stay in the present which was a great place! With that, we said our goodnights and headed to our respective rooms. We all changed and then went out to the balcony to catch Tinkerbell’s flight and Wishes…what a way to end the evening danielle
