| I am terrible at secrets...the BBB for DD's birthday in June was supposed to be a surprise, so was her CRT lunch but after having her look up at me with those eyes and that little smile I caved... Funny thing is I have no problem beign strong about a punishment or them doing chores but once it is something I know they will be happy with I just can't wait to see them smile... Our December trip was supposed to be a surprise...the oldest figured it out but I have remained strong...I will not tell the little one until the day we are leaving (ok trying to keep my mouth shut about this for 6 months is not easy but at least I can share little ideas with the older one - that might help Anyway...it is not tht you are bad keeping secrets - it is that you can't wait to see Melissa smile with excitement... |

| So I guess right now is a pretty fitting time for me to be doing a pretrip report. Why? Well, to answer this question we have to travel back in time; back when men’s glasses were much bigger, the shorts were much shorter (again, men’s shorts), clothing had no chance of matching, the socks were worn all the way pulled up and high-top sneakers were awesome…that’s right 1989, my first trip to Disney World. So why is it so fitting? In 1989 a movie came out that ended up defining me for many years to come, that move was INDIANA JONES and the LAST CRUSADE! At eight years old I was a huge fan of the first two films, I would watch them on tape all the time. Fast-forward almost twenty years later; today, May 22 2008, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is released in the theaters!!! Yes, I’m only a few hours away from seeing it. To this day I still remember going to see The Last Crusade in the theaters. I remember where we sat and what screen it was showing on, I know…crazy, but I loved it. Shortly after the movie came out we packed up the HUGE Ford Crown Victoria station wagon… ![]() (this is not a picture of the actual car, I found it on WikiPedia. Sweet car!) …and made the long drive from South Carolina to The Caribbean Beach Resort. Now I don’t remember a lot about this trip but what I do remember has stayed with me for years. First, I loved the cannons that shot water at the resort pool. I thought that was the best thing ever. Second, I remember every moment of ridding 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea! This was the best attraction, in my opinion, to ever reside at Disney World. I was floored. And lastly, there couldn’t have been better timing with the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular! It had all just opened, MGM and the stunt show and I was there to experience it along with all the hype over the final Indiana Jones movie. While we were at MGM I talked my parents into buying me an official Indiana Jones hat! And it was not cheap my friend, made out of brown wool with this nice lining inside. It was soooo cool…but unfortunately, I was not: ![]() Wow, what a dork I was! But it gets worse. From this point on my nickname was…Indi-Andy. OMG! I’m sure at the time I thought I was too cool with my official hat and new nickname that was given to me by MY MOTHER! Come on mom, did you want me to grow up and never have children or something? Anyway, I’m pretty sure I wore that hat until my huge head started to grow out of it. It still exists somewhere, tucked away in a closet at my parents house all dusty and worn down faithfully awaiting it’s long overdue sequel. Does this mean the return of Indi-Andy during our memorial day Disney trip? Picture Indiana Jones dusting off his old hat, wrapping his whip up and tossing it in his suitcase. He checks the bullets in his gun before he slides it into his holster and boards a private plane on his way to the next adventure. The camera cuts to a shot of a map with an airplane traveling from dot to dot, dramatic music plays in the background. Now picture Indy-Andy digging through his parents closet and finding a hat that has been flattened for the past twenty years. There’s a broken lamp on the floor, have the Nazi’s ransacked his room? No, he knocked it over himself while trying to reshape his hat and put his high-tops on at the same time. He tosses his big aviator glasses into his suitcase. The short shorts are a little tight after twenty years but they feel good, like an old friend. He checks the batteries in his three inch long digital piano watch before walking out to. The camera cuts to a shot of I-95 with a huge white, fake wood panel 1985 Ford Crown Victoria station wagon traveling from gas station to gas station, Michael Jackson plays in the background. So that’s my Disney background and the Indiana Jones connection. Tonight we are going to see the movie, Friday we cook out, and Saturday we board our flight for the next great adventure. See ya when we get back. In the meantime, enjoy the following pics from the Loflin’s 1989 trip. Oh yeah! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
