Great update...and even better looking meal!! My DH and I adored FFC the one time we got there by ourselves. With all of the allergies our boys have...it's tough at some of the restaurants and unfortunately, they miss out on most of the desserts. That puzzle and paint looks awesome!!

I have to say that your DH's food makes my mouth water. I love scallops, risotto
and peas! It reminds me of a meal I had in Las Vegas at Wolf Gang Pucks
restaurant. I have tried to find it elsewhere and no such luck. I will put FCC on
my list of must do restaurants.

I'm glad the Flying Fish was well worth the wait. It sounds like it was a superb meal.

For my appetizer and entrée, I decided to go for the Passporter tried and true selections that I’ve drooled over in trip reports for years: Flying Fish Cafe Peeky Toe Crab Cake - savory vegetable slaw, roasted red pepper coulis, ancho chili remoulade and Our Signature Flying Fish Cafe Potato-Wrapped Red Snapper - Creamy Leek Fondue, veal glace, and Red Wine and Cassis Butter Sauce.

Thom is a big calamari fan, so it was a no brainer when he ordered Crispy Sesame and Togarashi-scented Calamari - spiced green papaya, Wakame and Vegetables iwth Asian dipping sauce. He rarely orders scallops and he abhors peas, so I was surprised when he went with the Oak-grilled Hand-harvested Maine Scallops -- English Pea, Pecorino, Basil and Mascarpone-laced Risotto di Carnarolli, Prosciutto di Parma Cracklins.

Mary Devall also went with a tried and true, but hers was the Bowl of Mickey Pasta with butter and parmesan cheese. It’s normally served with marinara sauce, but she is not a fan of tomato sauce (unless it’s served in one of those nasty Kids Kitchen meals ).

Maddie is our more adventurous eater, so it was a hoot to hear her order Grilled Fish Skewer of the Day with roasted red potatoes and vegetables (and the fish of the day was snapper just like mine). The real fun began when Maddie ordered her fish and Bob asked with a deadpan expression “Do you want the head or the tail?” Maddie thought about it for about 15 seconds before she responded with “the tail.”

The Peeky Toe crab was every bit as delicious as it was advertised. I even took a picture and sent it to Larry also letting him know that it was once again being called the Peeky Toe crab.

Mary Devall had a taste and remarked that it was “tasty.” She even got mad at me when she found out that I had a crab cake at Ruby Tuesday’s on Father’s Day and didn’t tell her - - “Mommy, you know I like crab.”

Thom didn’t appear to be overwhelmed by any of his selections, but I think he actually didn’t have too much of an appetite (plus I think the peas in his entrée whigged him out a bit ). My entire meal, on the other hand, was delicious! The potato wrapped snapper was not at all what I expected - - I was thinking that it would be thinner and crispier, but it was so good.
Oh Jill, where to begin. I love, love, love Flying Fish. But then I think everybody knows that. I have had some truly wonderful experiences there, and it looks like you had one as well.

The potato crusted snapper is great, and who knew that leeks could be that good.

Overcoming my love of the snapper, and the fact that the dish had peas (yuck pooey, vegatables) I had the scallops and risoto when I dined there in May and I thought that it was devine.

I enjoyed reading about your meal there, it brought back many fond memories.

You know it never occured to me to get my children to try a new restaurant by showing them the dessert menu! I have always wanted to try FFC and now I finally think I can get them onboard with the idea. That's why I just love your trip reports. I can take all your sneaky ideas and try them on my kids!
