Yay!! powers back!!! I'm a little nervous how Layne will do during our trip...last year she was in love with the characters. This year I think she is going to be terrified It should be interesting. Last year Pluto & Goofy walked right by her, on their way for photos at AK, they waved but didn't stop she was highly insulted!! Can't wait to read more. I was thinking of starting a PTR/TR but last year I started but never finished...never really started other than my PTR. Maybe I will try again this year...
In 2007 I became a proud member of the DVC family. Unfortunately, I bought into a resort that wasn’t and still isn’t my favorite…Saratoga Springs. Some of you love it, some of you like it, and some of you avoid it like the plague. I’m in the “like” category. I mean, staying anywhere on Disney property means, “Hey, I’m in Disney, so why the heck do I care where I lay my head down?” However, when you own a piece of the pie, you kind of want it to be a slice that melts in your mouth every time you take a bite …know what I’m saying? SSR doesn’t melt in my mouth, although it doesn’t make me want to spit it out either, so that’s promising.
My parents, however, were able to buy into AKL, and to say I was a bit jealous is an understatement. I had bought into SSR one month before they opened up AKL as a DVC resort and I think Mickey could hear the screaming all the way from Maryland. AKL is my favorite resort, so the only chance we had of scoring a club level room at AKL was if we booked using my parent’s points.
Now, having said all of that, I had also just come back from staying at the BCV for the very first time, and that was becoming a very close second to my beloved AKL. I was on the fence. Do I still try and book club level at AKL or do I throw caution to the wind and go back to BCV and try to make the reservation at our 7 month mark? What to do, what to do??? Mom and I decided that if we couldn’t snag two club level studios, we would book two regular studio rooms, just for peace of mind knowing that we had a place to stay, and then at the 7 month mark we would try for the BCV.
With that plan in place, we waited until the morning of our 11 month mark. Mom came over to my house, we locked ourselves in a quiet room, and began calling a few minutes before 9am, just in case our clocks were a bit off. It was almost exactly 9am on the dot when she got through to a CM, and this is why I love her. She gives the CM all of her information, explains that she is trying to make a reservation for both of us, then says, “But I’m going to let you talk to my daughter because she can explain it better.” She makes me feel so smart. If anything ever happened to me, at least I know she wouldn’t be taking anymore vacations.
I gave him my dates and then requested two elusive DVC club level studio rooms...make me feel like I should be saying, “Crikey, she’s a beauty isn’t she?!?” And then, it was if Cinderella was sitting next to me softly singing “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” because that CM uttered those two magical words…”They’re Available”. Cue the choirs of angels singing Halleluiah , the sun streaming down through the clouds and a big ‘ole smile spreading across my face as my mom just sat there waiting for the verdict…I should have made her wait a little longer since she made me do all the work…but she sort of figured it out when she saw the big fat Cheshire Cat grin that I was sporting.
So with that, I booked it using her points, but since she wasn’t in that generous of a mood I transferred our amount back over to her. Now all we had to do was wait ….for a very long time to pretty much do anything worth while for this trip. But deep down in my gut I was still pining over the loss of the possibility of staying at the BCV. Staying so close to Epcot was so tempting, but having club level rooms was as equally tempting. Was I making the right decision, should I switch to a different resort? After talking with Kelly (OhToodles!) she helped me feel better about my choice, and we decided to stick with our original reservations. Two studio club level rooms at AKL thank you very much!!!
The two best things about this is: 1) The food…breakfast and beverages are pretty much taken care of, and we can snack til our hearts are content. 2) The Sunrise Safari…need I say more?!?
On a non-Disney related topic, tomorrow I’m leaving for Wildwood, NJ, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get back on here before next Tuesday when I return to work. I wanted to be able to take Hope to the beach one more time before summer was over, and I haven’t been to Wildwood in years. Chad has to work the whole weekend, so I asked my parents and we are all making the journey together, well, hopefully all of us. My dad’s back has been hurting pretty bad, but he went to see his doctor and he said it was due to extreme swelling from his surgery. They put him on steroids and if he’s feeling better he will be able to make the drive…fingers crossed.
This mini-trip couldn’t have come at a better time either since the Grand Prix has invaded our city. Major roads have been blocked and you can only imagine what that will do to hundreds of commuters who don’t want to be driving to work in the first place…just use your imagination on some of the things I heard coming out of their innocent little mouths. Yeah…only worse.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Enjoy yourselves and relax if you can. Hopefully I’ll be back with some cute beachy photos of my favorite girl to share with all of you.
You are going to love Club Level at AKLV! And the Sunrise Safari is a incredible! BCV is now my 2nd favorite, right after AKLV, too. We're hoping to book BWV at the 7 month window for next June as we love being able to walk to Epcot.

Thanks everyone for the pixies. I'd like to say they worked, because he did go, but he didn't feel very good while we were there. More to come on that later.

It's hard when you have two favorites. It definitely makes choosing the "right" one more complicate. Looks like we're just going to miss each other next year since we'll be there in May.

Thanks! BTW, you should definitely start another PTR/TR.
Love your description of the early morning call for the club level rooms...too funny and I have to thank you in a way as I am sitting here at work, enjoying your PTR, as I am reading I suddenly stop....look at the calendar and say....oh no, I am four days past my booking window....
So I just on the phone, call member services and....your angels are still singing as I was able to get the last club level studio for the days I needed - so if it was not for me reading your PTR I would have totally forgotten and missed club level and the sunrise safari again
So for saving the day (or for your PTR to save the day) and the funniest thing is I am reading all the replies and see Kelly responding to my post...call ASAP in the morning, then seeing your response...call ASAP early in the morning but it wasn't until I read your description of the call that it hit me to call...lol
Ok back to your TR - I can totally understand your back and forth between AKL and the BC, for us it is the BW, we love walking to Epcot, there is something so special about staying there, but then AKL is its own little amazing world also...hard choice but I think you made a great one.
Sorry that your dad is still not feeling better, hope he gets some relief soon....
