Today we were up and out of bed by 8:00. Kolby had his pirate adventure this morning, so we wanted to be sure we weren't late. We were on a bus to Hollywood Studios by 8:21, which isn't bad at all.
Once we arrived at DHS, we headed over to where the Ferry that would take us to the Yacht & Beach club was.
We got there just as one was pulling up.
We all piled on board, and went on our merry way.
We got a quick glimpse of the pirate boat that Kolby would be on this morning as well.
We arrived at the Yacht and Beach club pretty early ...
so we headed inside for a quick breakfast using some of our snack credits. We shared cinnamon rolls,
and got some OJ to drink.
Finally it was time to head down. We got Kolby all checked in.
We talked to the CM at check in about how we would get to DHS from here. They mentioned that it would be simple enough to walk there by going that a way and pointed in the direction. We thanked him and ushered Kolby over to get his lifevest and equipment. We snapped a quick pic of Kolby with his ever present peace sign ...
and we did a quick pirate cruise dance.
The boat he would be on was called the Serendipity, which was funny to me as this word has a lot of meaning in our lives.
Peace to the boat!
The kids got all their pirate cruising instructions before leaving ...
and then headed off to go catch those mean ol' pirates.
The kids sailed off ...
and Kris & I headed that a way towards DHS. We only had a very limited amount of time to get into DHS, so we hoofed it. Did we get there and back in time? Did Kolby enjoy his pirate adventure?
So after dropping Kolby off, Kris and I headed towards DHS in the "that a way" direction as per the instructions from the CM. Everything started out good until we got to the Swan & Dolphin hotels.
There was a fork in the road, and no sign telling us which way to go, so we just kept walking straight(ish).
And we kept walking ....
and walking ....
and walking .... until we ran into something that might look like something, but seemed to look more like the Fantasia Gardens. I told Kris that we had to be able to get to DHS through there, so we headed on in ...
And kept walking ...
and walking ....
and walking .... (sensing a theme here?) Finally we knew this was not the way, so we turned around and headed back out to the street. We saw the highway up ahead, and some buses headed down it, so we decided that we should be able to get there by following the highway. So we turned in that direction ...
And kept walking ...
and walking ...
http://youtu.be/ey_TKYTJ0ho Here's a video from the walk. I guess the guy actually told us to go "over a bridge" not much better than That A Way! LOL The video is a little bumpy, but you should get the idea. LOL
and walking ... until finally we saw a small sign for DHS on a path, below the bridge we were on.
And saw a Ferry that we could have easily hopped and probably been to DHS in 1/3 the time. But at least we knew we were FINALLY headed in the right direction.
We think it all went wrong when we got to the Swan & Dolphin, we should have taken the other fork in the road. I believe we took the road less traveled, and it did make all the difference ... in us getting lost anyway!
Finally after loads more walking (that wouldn't have been all that bad if we hadn't done all that previously-un-necessary walking), we arrived!
I was pretty upset that we had gotten lost and ended up doing so much walking. My feet can only take so much, and I had chosen not to get a Guest Assistance Card so far this trip as I didn't want the weird looks from people. I look like a healthy 30 year old, but I do have medical issues that make all this walking and standing really hard for me. I knew this was a rough start to the day for me. Not only that, but it was hard on Kris too. His teeth were hurting him pretty bad today. He was supposed to have some teeth work done before we left, which of course he didn't, so now it was coming back to bite him in the butt. We had called the dentist before we left this morning to get some pain killers and antibiotics. They were able to have them sent directly to our resort, but they hadn't arrived yet. So Kris wasn't in the best of moods either (though he was trying hard to make light of the situation ... and he took a lot of Advil too!! LOL).
Even so I was determined to make it fun, and of course we couldn't go into DHS without nabbing a pic of Mater first!
Once we got into the gates, we grabbed a quick picture with a photopass photographer ...
and headed to the back of the park to grab Fast Passes for Toy Story Mania.
Even though DHS shouldn't be all that confusing of a park to navigate, we had a hard time figuring out where to go for the Toy Story Ride. I think it's because it's kind of off to the side, and we didn't really realize that.
Finally we found the ride and were able to get our our Fast Passes, but they weren't valid until later in the day, which was fine as we were planning on waiting for Kolby before we used them anyway. I was only able to get 2 Fast Passes though since we didn't actually use Kolby's pass to get in the park, and I didn't realize that would make a difference.
After get our Fast Passes, Kris and I headed down the Streets of America.
I actually thought this was a really neat little section to walk through. Even though it's not a ride or anything super exciting, the look of it was really fun. Plus the street noises sounded so real!
Kris likes to laugh in the face of the law ....
Don't worry he didn't actually walk around back there, he just stepped behind for the photo. This is his idea of funny. LOL We continued on and made our way over to Star Tours.
Kris wanted to ride this ride ...
(I have no idea what he is pointing at there) .... But we were already cutting it close for us it make it back in time for Kolby's return from his Pirate Cruise. Kris was disappointed to not be able to ride the ride though, so I sent him on the ride by himself. I wasn't completely sure Kolby would actually ride Star Tours, so I figured it was good for Kris to ride it now so we didn't have to wait around for him if Kolby didn't want to go. Plus Kris could explain the ride to Kolby better this way.
I headed back to the Yacht & Beach Club to pick up the boy, this time I made sure to take the ferry.
Did Kolby have fun on his cruise and who actually makes it back to DHS this afternoon?
I got to the Yacht & Beach Club to pick up Kolby a wee bit early, but apparently the cruise got back even earlier. Kolby was one of the last kids there waiting to be picked up.
He was dressed like a pirate when I showed up, and a mighty scary one at that!! hehe
Kolby was excited about all the extras he got on the cruise. I tried to get some details about the cruise itself from him, but I believe his explanation went something like this ... we were chasing pirates, but we never saw them, then we got off the boat, then we came back .... LOL Guess he didn't get the memo that mama likes to scrapbook!
When we arrived at DHS, Kris was waiting outside the park for us. Since Kris had to go back to the resort to get his medication, we hopped right back on a bus. I asked Kris how he liked Star Tours, and he said it was great and he had had enough time to go on 3 times!! I guess that will suffice if he isn't able to go on again. LOL
We were headed back to the hotel at about 12:30 ...
so we knew it would be lunch time soon. First we headed into the store to check out the pin trading and pick some packages. Kolby played a memory game with one of the CMs and since he did so well she gave him a little certificate. It was a nice little surprise while we were waiting for Kris. We headed back to the room to drop everything off, and were excited to see what our mousekeeper, Ada did for us today.
It was a whole water slide in in our room!!
We were very excited to see this new creation. It was so unique, and it looked like Pluto was having fun too!!
Kris' tooth was hurting pretty bad at this point. He did get his meds and was able to take them, but it would take a little bit for them to kick in. So Kolby and I headed down to the cafeteria to grab lunch for all three of us. Kolby got spaghetti & meatballs, jello, and bread sticks. I picked up a steak and cheese, fries and a bag of Doritos. We got Kris a chili cheesedog, fries and a Mickey Rice krispie treat. We brought all the food to the room and ate pretty quick.
Kris laid down to take a nap, so Kolby and I headed down to the Fantasia pool for a little bit of swimming. Now that we knew we had a whole new week in Disney, we didn't feel so crunched to head back into the parks, which was a real nice feeling. We had a really fun time while we were at the pool. They had a bunch of games going on, some dancing, limbo, and musical dots. Kolby joined in many of the activities and had a real blast.
We got back to the room at 4:30. Kris was still sleeping, but Kolby and I hung around until 5:00. Kris decided to stay behind for the evening, so Kolby and I headed to the resort lobby to check out the pin trading event they had going on. After we checked everything out, we headed back to DHS to get use out of the Toy Story Mania passes I had picked up earlier in the day. Kolby was very excited to finally get in Hollywood Studios, even though it was raining a bit.
Kolby of course found some CMs that had pins to trade. This truly was one of the best pre-trip things I planned! It kept all of us amused the whole time.
After the pin trading we headed right over to TSM. The fast passes got us right in. I was a bit sad that we didn't get to see more of the line queue.
Though not sad enough to actually wait in line. We were on the ride in under 5 minutes.
The theming on this ride was pretty awesome.
Every inch of the building was covered in toys! Of course!
I have to say that I had my expectations set pretty low for this ride having played Buzz Lightyear's game/ride in Magic Kingdom. But after playing this one, I can see why it is so incredibly popular. It has all the magic ingredients, it's a video game, it involves competition, it's responsive, and it's just pretty dang cool!!
Every time our car moved on to the next round of something, I tried to snap pictures of the theming in between. They really do a great job of giving you something to look at at every turn.
Kolby enjoyed the ride too ...
though we both agreed that it wasn't good enough to wait 70 minutes to go on again. Especially with how late we had gotten to the park. So we headed off to find some dinner and find some new friends.
Who did we get to meet with only minutes to spare?
Great pics from DHS! Sorry it took so long to get there!
