Four long years after our last trip to Walt Disney World, and it is FINALLY time for another trip! Life has been busy, and I am sure you all feel the same. Since our last WDW trip, my DD has graduated high school and started college. I can’t believe she is a sophomore already! We aren’t exactly Disney-deprived , because this February/March we were lucky enough to get to sail on the Disney Wonder for the first time , to the Mexican Riviera! That trip was so much fun, and what started out as conquering a real fear for my DD ended up as true love because she still cannot stop talking about how much she LOVED cruising! If you are at all interested in reading that TR, you can find it here…Our “Wonder”ous Adventure To The Mexican Riviera. In fact, we already have our next cruise booked for September 2012 on the Fantasy, and we can’t WAIT! And, luckily for us, we live close enough to Disneyland to get to go every few months. I don’t normally write TR’s for those, because they are usually just day trips or 2-day trips. But WDW is my real true love, and I am sooooo excited to finally get to go back!!
CAST OF CHARACTERS ~
Amy (me) 41 years old
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love all things Disney. I grew up in San Diego, and so I was fortunate to get to visit Disneyland – a LOT. School trips, family trips…lots of Disney! Some of my very first memories from my childhood are of lying awake the night before a trip, with that big bundled ball of anticipation and energy in the pit of my stomach, unable to sleep because I was so excited and happy to get to go to Disneyland the next day. I remember my dad riding Space Mountain with me over and over, because I wanted to go again and again! , and I remember one day Pooh chased my mom around the whole park because he just wanted to give her kisses. Disneyland holds some of my fondest childhood memories, and I love to reminisce about those times because my parents are no longer with us. Once I visited WDW for the first time, my love and obsession went to another level. WDW is the ultimate for me, I just love it so much! And, thankfully, I think I have passed that love on to my DD, which is such an amazing thing!
Kaitlyn (aka Kaity) 19 years old
Kaitlyn is a sophomore at Arizona State University, studying to become an elementary teacher. Teaching is the ‘family business’, I guess you would say, because more than half of my relatives are teachers or administrators. Kaitlyn has known since she was 5 years old that she wanted to be a teacher. She is beautiful and brilliant, and she is one of those kinds of people that kids just gravitate toward. She is going to be a fantastic teacher, I just know it! In her public speaking class this month, she was assigned to give a presentation on any topic. She chose to give her speech on Walt Disney and his life. She even brought her Mickey ears in as her prop! I have a feeling that the way I love WDW, she loves DCL, so from now on it might be a battle of the wits to see where we end up vacationing each year!
Austin (Kaitlyn’s boyfriend of 2 years) 17 years old (she likes ‘em young! )
Austin is our WDW newbie – he has never been before! We’ve already dragged him to DLR with us, and we are so excited to show him around WDW! He is a high school senior, and he turns 18 years old three weeks after we get home (see, it’s not that bad ). I am lucky that Kaitlyn chose someone that we love so much, and fits in with our family so well. His parents have really raised a wonderful kid. And most importantly, he treats my daughter like a princess. Austin is very creative and artistic – he has performed in plays since he was very young, and is very musically gifted. I haven’t told him too much about the trip, because he wants to be surprised. I can’t wait to see his face when we go to the Candlelight Processional, or when he sees Festival of the Lion King for the first time. I know how much he is going to love all of that talent, and I am beyond excited to see his reaction!
THE PLANS ~
Thursday, December 1st – Our flight leaves Phoenix at 7am, and we should be landing in Orlando at 2:45pm. DD does not do well with flights, she has a real issue with pressure and pain with her ears. We purchased EarPlanes based on all of your recommendations ( ), so I hope that will give her some relief. We will pick up our rental car, and head over to POR to check in. POR is another first for us. On our trip in 2007, we were booked at POR, but got ‘bumped’ to WL. I was actually sad! (until I checked in… ), because I was so looking forward to staying at POR. I have requested AB, just because it appeals to me, with connecting rooms. We will see how it goes! After we check in and freshen up, we are headed over to Epcot. My goal is to make the tree-lighting ceremony at 6:00pm, and then we have an ADR at Garden Grill at 7:05pm. After that, Illuminations!
Friday, December 2nd – This morning, we have an early ADR at CMC, which is a first for us. Lots of firsts this trip! Then we plan to tour the BC and GF to take in all of the holiday decorations. I am really looking forward to buying some gingerbread in the gingerbread house! Our plans originally included driving over to Gaylord Palms this morning to see ICE!. But since the theme this year is Shrek, I am not into it at all. So we just crossed that little part right out of our itinerary. We will be spending the rest of the day at DHS. We have a linner reservation at 4:35pm at Sci Fi Dine In, then we will head to Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights!
Saturday, December 3rd- Another early ADR for breakfast, this time at Boma. My sneaky plan here is two-fold – one, to get to see all of AKL’s fabulous holiday decorations. But two – I want my DD to get to look around and fall in love with the resort, so we can stay here on our next trip! Our day will be spent at Epcot World Showcase, taking in as many of the storytellers as we can, and touring countries. We have a linner reservation for Via Napoli at 3:30pm (such dumb times, but that is what was available ), and then we get to see the Candlelight Processional at 6:45pm with Geena Davis and our very own Passporter, Gray!
Sunday, December 4th- Early breakfast at ‘Ohana this morning, so we can see all of the beautiful Poly decorations! Then we will head over to AK for the morning and afternoon. We have an ADR at Yak and Yeti, and I cannot WAIT to ride EE again! I love me some Yeti! Tonight is MVMCP, and so we plan to be at MK by 4-5pm. Probably closer to 4ish, because my goal tonight is to stand in the 2 hour line to get a picture with Snow White and all 7 Dwarfs!
Monday, December 5th – Check out day (it all went so fast! ) Today we will be headed over to US, with the sole intent of doing everything Harry Potter! WWOHP is supposed to be crowded in the mornings, from everything I’ve read. I am *hoping* we will be able to get everything done between 9:00am (rope drop) and 3:00pm, when we have to leave for the airport. Our flight lands back home in Phoenix at 8:00pm, so by the time we get our luggage and get home, it will be bedtime!
So that’s it! I really wanted to go longer than 5 days – this is the shortest vacation we’ve ever taken to Florida! This is the week before finals for both Kaitlyn and Austin, so not the most ideal time to travel. But I have been dying to see all of the holiday festivities for myself for YEARS. Combined with free dining, I had to ‘suffer’ and suck it up, and settle for 5 days instead of the ten I really wanted to take! Any later in the month, and it will be too crowded. I do not do well with high crowds . I also have my very first Passporter meet scheduled, and I am excited and nervous, but so looking forward to it!

It sounds great, Amy! It'll be amazing to see the live shows with someone who will really appreciate all the talent and work that goes into the performance. Can't wait to hear how Austin reacts.
