Very sad news. I saw Davy Jones in concert two or maybe three years ago along with his other monkee counterparts (minus Mike). I had been to several concerts of Mr. Jones over the years and was always entertained. As I child I even slept in a Monkees t-shirt. Sorry you won't be able to see him in WDW. It would have been a blast.
I hadn't heard the news about Davy Jones yet. So sad. I discovered the Monkees show as reruns in the '80s, just before they had their "comeback" album, and I just loved Davy Jones.
I hadn't know the dates of your May trip, but it looks like we'll be there at the same time! We're going down May 8-14. But we're staying at POFQ.
It's very sad about Davy Jones. My mom's college friend was his neighbor in Beaver Springs, PA. So it's pretty sad. I saw him once at the EPCOT and even though I'm younger than most who remember him, I still enjoyed his music and The Monkees ...
So sorry you will miss the concert. I think Davy Jones was my first "star" crush. My sister and I used to play the Monkees when we were little and we would alsway argue over who got to be Davy. I saw them on the reunion tour in the 80's as well only I wasn't in 6th grade like yourself - A little old (ahem)!
The news of Davy Jones' passing is such a shocker. I am truly sorry that your plans to see him won't get to be fulfilled. I was fortunate to see him last May at the F&GF for my 40th b-day (he played my bday weekend). I had never seen him live before, just the TV shows. It was a great show - he made me feel like we were some of his close friends just hanging out listening to him jam.
On a happier note - congrats on getting to visit the World again so soon. Even if it is a short trip. Any time at WDW is awesome time.
Thanks everyone for the congrats on the waitlist coming through. It pays to be patient I guess. I wonder if they're going to get another artist to perform in his place. Anyway, there will be a new update at the beginning of next week, so stay tuned.

I had a Monkees shirt too, and a few posters, and a few records (yeah, they were still selling records when I was in 6th grade). Mike wasn't at the concert I saw either, but then again, he never really wanted to have much to do with the group after the Monkees went off the air.

Who knows, we might be in the same place at the same time.

How neat, and don't worry, I'm a young fan too, and I'm just as sad as those people who are the same age as him.

How sad. One of my co-workers lost his father on Thursday, but he was a lot older.

My prayers go out to his family.
It's funny, because I think he was my first real celebrity crush too. The funny thing is, I was watching the re-runs on Nickelodeon, and I had a crush on young Davy, but I saw older Davy in concert.

Actually, this is a longer trip than we had originally planned...but only by a day. We were going for a week, and extended it an extra day. Although that could technically be considered too short to us Disney fanatics.
I saw Davy Jones perform as Fagen in Oliver when we lived in St. Louis. I always liked him and of course the music. I was so excited to see him in Oliver. Unfortunately he was very drunk during that performance and went into rehab the following week. I know he HD his issues, but he was talented, that's for sure.
