Yay! A TR from Marnie! Has it really been FOUR YEARS since your last WDW trip? Was that the rain-rain-rain one? I remember the family photo of you all in ponchos. Airfares are insane right now. You did amazingly well by going to Islip (I like that little airport, too). POFQ is my favorite Moderate. Can't wait to hear the details, but I don't like the sound of your teaser for the ME experience.
New to your TR....I love the idea of kinda going last minute. I booked my trip 10 months in advance and it feels like forever until we go....and booking last minute you don't have time to obsess over things can't wait to hear more.
It has been a looong time since I ready one of your TRs... so excited to find this, Marnie! Great start! I, too, am looking forward to hearing about your Spring Break adventure and seeing how much the kids have grown!
Great start Marnie!
Sorry about your DSIL. That's such a shame to act that way. Good for you for putting your foot down. If it were me, I'd do the same!
Thanks! Family! Ugh!

They've only grown a little!

We'll get there, maybe for spring break next year!

Great start! Boy do I hear you about those airfares! That's the main reason I'm not planning on doing any flying for vacations this year...last year's vacation airfare wiped me out!

Friday, April 13, 2012 – Travel Day and the Long DME Bus to Nowhere!
I thought I’d start this trip with a trip down memory lane, since the kids are now overgrown. This was family trip #8 to WDW, with our first trip in May 2003.
May 2003
May 2004
December 2004
April 2005
December 2005
August 2006
August 2008
The kids had school today, so it was business as usual, other that Matt taking the day off. We had pretty much packed everything last night, so other than weighing the cases, we were done. I ran out to get some last minute things (DVDs for the camcorder, a cover for my Kindle) and did a load of laundry. And moved over the rest of my Disney Reward Dollars from my Visa (we ended up with about $925 which should pay for our meals for the week). About the time to get the kids, I realized I hadn’t put the clothes in the dryer (and couldn’t leave them for a week) plus I hadn’t run the dishwasher. So Matt stayed home while I went to get the kids (different schools) which would buy me an hour which should be plenty of time for them to finish. We finally set off for Long Island about 12:45, and promptly ran into traffic on the Merritt Parkway. Ugh. Twice. They were cutting trees. On Friday afternoon. Thankfully no further traffic, and we made it to the inlaws with time to spare. We were soon dropped off at MacArthur and had a bit of a wait at an empty airport. I guess you don’t need to get to MacArthur 2 hours before a flight, unless it’s first thing in the morning, as we were the only ones at the baggage counter, and the only ones going thru security. And finally, I didn’t have to get a pat down from TSA!
We grabbed dinner at the airport (gotta have Mama Lombardi’s)! And sat in the cushy Southwest chairs with the charging stations. You know you’re in the airport too long when you timeout of the free wifi! I had paid for EBCI, and I think we were in the A25 range. We actually left a few minutes late, but made up the time in the air (it was a bit of a bumpy ride). The kids had their iPods and I listened to a bunch of Disney podcasts that I had downloaded before we left. We landed and had a pretty quick taxi to the gate. Since we were arriving at 9:30, I decided to just pick up our luggage and then head to DME. Problem was we had to wait about 30 minutes for the luggage, so it was just after 10 when we finally got back to DME (other terminal for us). We were put on a bus right away, and had a 5 minute wait before we left. Then a LONG trip to WDW. The bus driver was SLOW (other buses were passing us). First stop was the GF. How that is anywhere close to POFQ, I have no idea. Add to that, it was close to park closing time and it was gridlock trying to get there with all the park buses. A couple and their 2 small sleeping children hopped off. Then to OKW, where we dropped off one passenger. Then to SSR where we dropped off two people, and then finally to POFQ. I got to the front desk around 11:30. Almost 90 minutes on the DME bus. Not happy, cranky, and tired. Thankfully I had a great CM. I had done online check-in, but soon discovered that I wasn’t where I wanted to be (they had me in 3228 – building 3, second floor). I had requested building 4 or 5, first floor. I know the resort is small, but seeing a couple of mornings later a huge school group in the food court and that their rooms were building 3 second floor, I’m glad I asked for the change). The CM Aditya was making me balloon animals and giving me stickers to try to improve my mood. He claimed that a huge contingent had checked in earlier this afternoon and taken up all the first floor rooms. So I stated (because I was cranky) that if I had arrived at noon instead of midnight, I would have gotten my first floor room? I know, but I was tired. And aggravated. Aditya got right on the phone, to see if anything else was available. Voila, there’s a room in building 5, on the first floor (5145). I couldn’t be happier, thanked Aditya profusely, and we finally headed to our room, which was about 5 doors down from the main drag. Couldn’t have been happier. Because I’m anal, I put away everything before we headed off to bed. Lights out, and the plan was for Animal Kingdom in the morning (our tradition is to start in that park). I set the alarm for 7, I think, and was fast asleep.

Yeah, I think 90 mins on a DME bus would make me cranky as well. I don't think I have ever been on one of those that long....not even going to and from the airport to the Disney Cruise ships.
And I am anal like you.....need to put all the stuff away prior to doing anything there. Makes it so much easier to get ready and such when everything is unpacked and ready to go.
90 minutes on the DME bus is enought to put anyone in a bad mood. Glad you got the room location you hoped for. Love your pics from earlier trips. It's fun to see the kids grow through the years at WDW! More please...
90 minutes?! YIKES! That is awful, and I would have been cranky too!
Love the "pictures through time"! How is it that the kids have changed so much, but you look the same?!
Glad you got a 1st floor room after all that.
