Good advice I thought. The other tip was as soon as the plane starts to speed-up and start to take off, count to 10,if you're still in the air at the 10 second count
you'll be OK. HAHA (not gonna tell Coop about that one!)
Ok. Don't tell me. I just will pray and have you distract me. And drugs will help!

Thanks. I will definitely be calling my MD!

I also take sudafed, which I know you can not take the real stuff but the other stuff will help as well. Good luck if you choose to fly. We live so close we always drive but right now flying is not an option with our son ( he would have to be sedated) who is on the autism spectrum.
How does your son fare on car trips? I haven't flown since 9/11 either. I got those ear things and may get something from my MD. I should be fine.

Thanks Dani. I may be PMing you for those techniques. I may be able to squeeze a book in. As long as it isn't War and Peace.

I have my own little fears of flying (the landing part), but I give in to the fact that I can get there that much quicker to WDW than driving.
Thanks. The time is what won out for us too. And it was cheaper for us, actually.

The cost for us won out even WITH the fees. But the last time I flew, bags were free, you got a soda and peanuts for free (you had to pay for alcohol), they didn't charge for selecting a seat or printing tickets. You also didn't have to practically strip to go through security and your family could see you off at the gate. It's been a while.

He actually does very well on car trips, we have traveled a lot with him since he was a baby. He has a DVD player to watch cartoons and we stop frequently to break up the drive. He has had some times that he was upset but only because we were going back home from Disney, so I really can't blame him for being upset. We just got back from a long road trip and he did very well although he did break the DVD player because he kept putting his feet on it, so he lost that for a few hours before we put the back up out for him. But he really enjoys the car, but he does not sleep in a car. He has not done that since he was 2 or 3 years old. So that is why we stop a lot. If it is a long drive we make sure that when we stop to eat, we stop somewhere that we can sit down for a meal. That way we are out of the car for a bit.

What a terrible experience you had to face, definitely would have kept me away from airplanes for some time as well. I think we all pray on the way up and down, I know I do...

I am glad the benadryl sinus will work for you, benadryl ever since the recall is redesigning their medication so it hasn't been on the shelves but I have been using the Rite Aid Allergy Sinus and it works wonders, they are actually two, one with tylenol, one without, we use the one without but it has really helped with the plane ride, and I get sinus issues a lot and they are wonderful.

I wasn't sure if I should ask this question in here,or a new post,BUT ........How do I go about flying out of Detroit's Metro Airport with one vial of insulin(that needs to stay cool) and 14 syringes???
My thought is to take the insulin with me on the plane in a cold pack. and pack the syringes in my check-in bag. I plan on having my Doctor give me a letter, but is there anything else? I can always count on the PP family for good, honest answers. Thank you.

I'm so sorry you have such a traumatic memory about flying. I don't blame you one bit for being anxious about it. Years ago, Pacific Southwest Airlines was a sponsor of the Circle Vision theater at Disneyland. In the pre-show, there was a cartoon with birds explaining how planes work and how they get "lift" to fly. I wish there was a way to show you that cartoon today because whenever I get a bit anxious about flying (luckily, not too often), I just think about that cartoon and all becomes well with the world! Also, I read an article once about what airline captains want you to know. One of the things they said stuck with me. Let me paraphrase: "We don't like turbulence either, so trust me we're going to try to find the smoothest air possible."

Chuck, I'd confirm with your airline for specifics although I agree with you that you'll get great advice here. Also, as a bit of a warning, I've read that needles have been stolen out of check in bags before (someone had gone on a cruise only to discover once on board that the needles they had packed had been stolen...luckily the ship's infirmary was able to give them some needles to use).

That is really good. I just know that a road trip can get a bit tedious even for us adults so I'm glad he does well for you.

I always have sinus trouble even without being at 10,000 ft. I did get those ear plugs to try as well.

Thanks for the links. I also contacted our local office, and everything is pretty much set. My question is HOW do I do it? I'm thinking of taking one of those disposable ice packs, like we have at the hospital, put that in a ziplock bag with my insulin, and needles. Or maybe a small thermos? ice it down for maybe an hour, then wrap up the bottle,so it won't break, then put it in the thermos, dry. I read where that will keep for several hours without any problems. Either way, running out of room in my carry on bag.

I've travelled with friends who have used these bags:
FRIO :: The FRÍO® Insulin Travel Wallet: General, Technical, Medical and Safety Information

If you're worried about taking up room in your carry-on, you are allowed to carry medical necessities in addition to your carry-on, so you could add a small tote bag or pouch to the outside of your carry-on for the supplies.

Wow! I can see why you prefer to drive, but I'm glad you'll get to the fun faster by flying
Check all the articles about DME and the buses- it's pretty much what sold my husband on Disney. Not the "magic", go figure. It will be different though, especially if you're used to having your own transpo.

(BTW, I've been flying since I was a baby, and I still pray before takeoff every time!)
