| No one was arrested, nothing was broken.. That got your attention. Or, The Romantic weekend that turned family fun time. August 24 to 27, 2001 Where? Boardwalk Villas, studio Who? The Lefebvre Family, AKA Don, Nancy, Jason & Ashley Here it is, my first ever PassPorter Trip Report. Done with notes from..Ta Da!!!! the PassPorter. Our Jouney to the World: As some of you know, we had planned a romantic weekend at WDW for our first ever DVC stay. We booked a studio on cash back in April. In mid June we purchased an additional 70 points in DVC and were able to convert the cash stay to points. One of my wife's brothers was going to come out with his 7 yo son and stay with our two children while we were gone. Less than a week prior to leaving, he called and said his soon to be ex-wife would not let their son come along. He offered to come out for three of the four days we would be gone. After a day of searching to cover the last day, we decided to suprise the kids and take them along. I called Southwest and booked the last two seats on our flight. Close one. I booked the dog a room at our Vets boarding service and told the kids he had to stay overnight for a shot. Sneaky? The day before we left, we dropped the dog off at his resort and I spent the day catching up on laundry (remember, I am a Stay-at-Home-Dad, or as I like to say a Trophy Husband) and secretly packing both the kids clothes and mine. After dinner, my wife packed her "stuff". That night we told the kids that their Uncle would be in after midnight and we would wake then before we left to say goodby. My 10 yo son got real quiet for a while. Then he started crying. "I'm going to miss yoooouuuuuu!" Nancy quickly melted and said we had to tell them. Being the "rock" that I am.....I agreed. At first they would not believe us and I had to get out the e-tickets. That did not work. Then I had to open the suitcase to show them their clothes. That did it, but my 9 yo daughter (and fellow Disnoid) kept giving me "withering" looks. When asked what the problem was she replied "That was real mean not to tell us". The next morning at 5 AM it was up and into the shower and then wake Jason & Ashley up. "Does this mean we are really going?" asked Jason. We got out of the house real easy at 5:20 AM and were at the "Albany International Airport" by 5:50. International is a bit of a stretch but, that's what they call it. The family went to get a McD's breakfast while I stand in the Southwest line. I had a wonderful "Disney" conversation with the two ladies in front of and in back of me. Nancy offers to take my place so I can eat, but I do not want to leave the conversation. Two of us were trying to sell DVC to the other lady. I was not able to "close" the sale that day, but think I planted the seed. Our plane departed the gate on time, but when we got to the runway the Captain said there was a problem and we had to go back to the gate. After a while he came on to say there was a 'puter problem that they could fix. That is when a truck pulled up next to us and the " 'puter repair man" got out about six quart cans and a spout and disappered under the plane. A few minutes later he came and got about six more cans. Does anyone here have a 'puter that uses some sort of liquid? After having the planes " 'puter" fixed we got off the ground about 1.5 hours behind. We got into Orlando about ... how late class? 1.5 hours, right! Noon. At the bottom of the escalator was a gaggle of drivers with signs. I picked one whose sign was the closest to our name. This is when we met Darcy. What a great guy. He promptly renamed us the "Griswolds". As our real name was "close" to his sign and matched the resort, BWV we decided to take up his offer to take us there. We had a nice ride and conversation on the way. Another of Nancy's brothers has a one man towncar service in Massachusetts so we talked of....towncar services. We arrived at the Boardwalk without any problems, paid Darcy and agreed on a pickup time. The line inside was short, about 10 minutes. I registered us and got my first "Welcome Home" from the CM. He saw my PassPorter and asked if it was the newest one. Yup. Our studio was ready so we had the bags sent up. What a terrific room. Third floor overlooking the boardwalk courtyard. We could see SE over to the left. The bags showed up a couple minutes later and the CM said we would be able to see the fireworks from our balcony. We decided to head out to the Boardwalk, but the place was deserted and very hot. We had a quick lunch at the Big River Grill. After that we walked over to the International Gateway and purchased AP's for everyone. It was really hot so we skipped going into Epcot till evening and went back to BWV to use the pool. The pool....very nice. The kids loved the slide. Nancy and I did not. The seams hurt our backs on the way down. Us "larger" folks stayed in the pool while the youngsters used the slide over and over and over. About 4 PM we headed up to the room to change for our 6:30 PS's at the Rose & Crown. We also used to time to stock up our fridge with water & milk and get some b'fast items from the General Store on the Boardwalk. At 5:30 we started to Epcot. Just as we got to the end of the Boardwalk we discovered we had forgotten the AP's! I walked back to the room for them. I was not going to run in the heat. As I was headed back with the AP's I met the rest of family coming back towards me. Jason was doubled up with stomach cramps. Back to the room we go and I called and cancelled the PS's. Got some fluids into Jason and he seemed to be getting better. The other three of us dined on hot dogs from the cart on the Boardwalk. No PS's needed there! Jason had some cereal. This was one time that I missed not having a car. After several trips with the kids, I now know my way to the clinic at WDW like I know the way to get milk back home. Jason did get better and we took the boat over to Epcot just in time for the ToN parade. We got a bench by the gate at Morocco. We shared the bench with an older couple who saw my DVC Member pin on my hat. I might also mention here that my PassPorter pin was on the front of my hat. Not having anything to do till the parade started, I tried to sell them on DVC. Did not close that sale either. The darn parade distracted them. But, I'm like Johny Appleseed here, throwing seeds around. The parade was great. I'm going to miss it, but also look forward to the new one. We then walked over to that little island between France and UK and got a great place at the rail. A young couple pulled in next to us and we discovered they were CM's on their day off. Both were new in the College Program. Very upbeat young folks. He had been to WDW several times and figured he might as well get paid to go instead of the other way around. She had never been to WDW before joining the CP. He was showing her around. The both of them were a real credit to Disney. (As I figured they had limited income, I did not bring up DVC here) Then it was back to the room. It is really cool going in and out through the International Gateway. After a hot sweaty day it was showers all around. Think "Cool Hand Luke" weather. Lights out was 10 PM. Oh, almost forgot. The Boardwalk was alive on the way back. Lots going on. There was a guy with a piano bike pedaling around. Very funny. So ends the trip down and first day. [ 08-31-2001: Message edited by: Disnydad ] |

| Re: No one was arrested, nothing was broken.. Disnydad, Great job. So fare so good for your first day there. Ohhh Jason's illness scared me there for a minute. Probably all the excitement and the airplane ride. Glad it was nothing serious. You're good at this, BTW, I have an article I need to write for our company newspaper, can ya give me some help? | Re: No one was arrested, nothing was broken.. Disnydad, For a first report, you seem like a regular 'ole pro at it! I can't wait to read the rest. I'm so happy that Jason bounced back in time to enjoy the rest of his first day. I think worse than having a sick kid with you at WDW would be being the sick kid ! |
