Boo\'s First Trip to Disney - Part 5

5 - Don’t Say That Word

Port Orleans-Riverside
November 5-11, 2001

Cast: Nana - “Disney” coordinator, 55 yrs old
Boo - Grandson, 2½ years
DD - Boo’s mama, 29 yrs old
DS - 25 yrs old

Day Four - Thursday, November 8, 2001

Mickey called again to let us know there were big doin’s today. We headed to Magic Kingdom and more of the People, People instructions at the toddler supervised bus stop. We had changed plans and decided to spend the entire day at Magic Kingdom.

Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo and Snow White were all less than 15-minute waits and we did them all before our 10:25 PS at Crystal Palace. I never did find Mr. Toad’s transferring the deed, but we all enjoyed this ride, especially bouncing with Tigger.

Character interaction at CP was again wonderful. Boo walked right up to Pooh and hugged his leg - hope my picture comes out. Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore visited with us, too.

We headed towards Splash Mountain, stopped off to see the Country Bears. DD & DS went to ride Splash while Boo and I chilled and got Fast Passes for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad with the two park passes I had on me. I looked for the play area, but didn’t find it ‘til the others had finished the ride; never thought to look under the railroad station. It was time for BTMR and DS decided I should do that ride with DD so he stayed with Boo.

We then all visited the ghosts in the Haunted Mansion after a popcorn/drink break. Boo is not afraid of the dark and had already been primed for these fun ghosts by watching the video, Sing along Disneyland Fun.

On to Tomorrowland where DD & DS got Fast Passes for Space Mountain. We all did the Transit Authority; “Race cars, Nana; see the race cars.” Unfortunately he never got to ride.

We waited the posted 35 minutes, actual about 15, to conquer Zurg in Buzz’s Space Ranger Station. Real humiliation for me: DS - 125,500; DD - 63,500; Nana - 4,000. I demand a rematch.

It was time for Space Mountain fast pass, so Boo and I did TTA again then relaxed in the shade with one of those multi-colored icee things for Boo and a Mickey bar for me.

It was mid-afternoon and we decided to take the train from Toon Town (walked the back path from Tomorrowland to get to train station) all the way around and back to Main Street where we got off and got bus to resort.

Boo again readily made friends on the bus trip (standing room only again, but someone always gave DD or me a seat to hold Boo). A little girl, about 10 or 11, chatted with him and gave him a very nice Mickey pin. Her sister made a comment about something being “stupid.” Boo’s quick response was “Don’t say that word.” The girls’ mother was impressed and told him so, saying he was right, it was not a good word to say. She asked her daughter if she understand what he had said; daughter said yes, he said not to say “stupid.” Boo again said, “Don’t say that word.” I was impressed, too - he’s actually been listening to his mother and me about what words are not nice to say.

To back up a few days, one of the little boys he befriended on Tuesday’s bus was from Greensboro - it’s a small world after all.

Stopped at food court for nourishment on the way to the room. Kids wanted to play Winter-Summerland Miniature Golf, so we took off again for bus stop to catch Blizzard Beach bus. Waited less than 5 minutes. My children, unsure that I knew what I was doing, insisted I check with driver that this was correct bus. (How could I be wrong after my many months of visiting the DIS and Passporter sites?) Driver said this was the last run of the day to Blizzard Beach, but it was not the right bus for Winter-Summerland. So we went to Bell Services for some knowledgeable guidance. Yes - BB bus was right, but we just missed the last one. See - I’m not a natural blonde. Only alternative was taxi. Since we were using magical wishes for golf, we splurged and requested a cab. Sure enough - W-S is in next parking lot to Blizzard Beach. I won both games; my golfer son definitely needs to work on his short game. We all had fun and although I was supposed to remember the course secrets, I’m the one who got caught by the water spouting snowmen. Transportation was inconvenient, but after all, it is not peak season and there were not more than a dozen or so groups playing.
