| Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Day 11, Part 1 - February 16, 2002: No, the Report's Not Done Yet! Yes, we still have a little ways to go with our Intrepid Travelers.... Marti generously stopped by the room shortly after 7:00 AM to offer to bring me coffee from Old Port Royale (OPR; a thousand blessing upon your head! ), but as I was in the shower, Bob declined for me. Partly it was because we are going to Epcot today and since it does not open until 10:00, we are going to eat breakfast at OPR around 8:00, before starting out. Breakfast for Marti and me was french toast. Mine took longer to acquire, though, as I picked the sloooow line. I think Bob had danish and OJ; I had OJ and coffee and Marti also had some more coffee. After returning the mugs to our rooms, we caught the bus to Epcot. We did not find a bad wait for security or getting through the ticket gate. While waiting ten or so minutes for the rope drop, we talked to some first timers and advised the daughter--who was the only one who wanted to ride Test Track (TT)--to save herself a lot of time and use the Single Riders Line. After rope drop, we (and they) headed to Journey Into Imagination to see Honey, I Shrunk the Audience and, of course, the pre-show, True Colors, which I have commented upon previously. We then hustled over to The Land pavillion for a short wait for Living With the Land, and had one of the better CM's for the tour guide. We also took in Food Rocks! before moving on. When we left The Land, it was showering and developing into a true downpour, so we scampered to Innoventions West where we explored for a while. The Radiology exhibit was interesting and we performed--successfully!--virtual brain surgery after a short presentation [in retrospect, an interesting piece of irony, that]. We moved on to Innoventions East for a short time before sliding over to the TT Single Riders Line. TT had been shut down--presumably for the downpour--and we had to wait a bit for the restart. Of course, once they reopened our line we moved ahead of both the standby and FP lines. We started heading out of Future World and Epcot, but stopped for Spaceship Earth (no wait) because Marti had not yet ridden it. Then it was on to the Magic Kingdom, the one park we didn't visit yesterday! Next: Fun at the MK and Then Another Great Meal! | Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Day 11, Part 2 - February 16, 2002: Just How Wet Are We? We arrived at the MK during the parade on Main Street, so we once again made use of the WDW RR to bypass the crowds--the extremely large crowds, I might add--to get to Frontierland. We got FP's for Splash Mountain (SM), and then waited about 30 minutes for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. That was about as long as we had waited for anything on this trip--Bob and Marti can check me on this--but no doubt given the crowds at the MK today it would have been even longer had it not been for the parade. I should back up at this point and mention that prior to boarding the WDW RR we stopped briefly in City Hall to make PS's for Artist Point for 5:45 PM--our opportunity to have a really nice meal with Marti and to show her (and show off) the WL, to which we could hop right over on the boat. This rather important piece of information is essential to appreciating what came next--namely our use of the SM FP's. Now, I have ridden SM and gotten damp, and I have ridden it and gotten sprinkled, but after we got in our log and started around to the outside to begin our ride, we paused--of course--to be perfectly aligned for the water cannons firing for the log making the long drop. "You may get wet" really didn't cover it! Needless to say, at this point we decided that we needed jackets for later because the MK is open until 11:00 PM tonight, and we all needed to change clothes, although Marti just happened to have had her poncho with her so was quite a bit dryer than Bob or me.... The bus to CBR took a while arriving, and even though we changed quickly, we would clearly have insufficient time to bus back to the MK and then grab the boat to WL and still make our PS at AP. Bob to the rescue! Doh! We have a car! Bob graciously offered to drive directly to the WL--problem solved! Once we parked, we had some time, so we walked through the lobby pointing out highlights, and then strolled outside to view the creek, the falls, and the rest of the lovely environs. Next: Another Fabulous Meal at AP! |

| Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Day 12 - February 17, 2002: Our Final Trip to the Parks and We Head For Home Today we went directly to D/MGM and began in our usual fashion: ToT twice, then RnRC. I have pondered how I would describe the ToT experience and am not sure I am up to it, but here goes: The theming is just tremendous and the special effects are spectacular. The "scenes" leading up to the drops are some of Disney's best. [I will not describe them in detail as they are best experienced--I think--without the foreknowledge.] Thereafter, the number of drops and the timing has varied from trip to trip. There is often a short drop to get a reaction from the riders for the digital picture (Bob and I are mostly just laughing in these), and then some loooong drops followed by a surge upwards, one drop that is preceeded by a bit of special effects, and this time, an extremely well timed upwards move followed by a long drop that lifted us up off the seat slightly (you're not going anywhere--there's a bar) where we hung for what seemed to be a pretty long time (the so-called "hang time"--Woohoo! ). On some of the returns to the top, the elevator doors open so you can catch a glimpse of the park outside. It is all very, very smooth and quite a bit more nervous-making in the anticipation rather than the riding, IMHO. How'd I do? We were determined to get Bob in the Hot Seat, so we got a WWTBAM FP and then got in line for the 10:50 AM show. UNBELIEVABLY, for the 3RD TIME when time was called, BOB was once again at the top of the Top Ten List!!! [When the list was checked at the 1000 point level, I was #6, but was soon out of it.] When we left that show we immediately got in the FP line for the next, but no joy that time either. We lunched at the ABC Commissary for the first time: fish and chips all the way around. We tried to get into WWTBAM in the standby line, but were about 40 people to late, so we got a FP for the next WWTBAM show and went to Starring Rolls for dessert--Fudge Cake (yummy!) for Bob and me, and cheesecake for Marti. Returning to WWTBAM, your intrepid addicts were all three on the board at 32,000 points (#'s 3, 4, and 5) and at the end, Marti was #1 when time was called!!! I should mention the gum-chewin', mama cheatin' Hot Seat girl from NY [Thanks, Bob!] was considerably helped by the audience on the 32,000 point question. Early on her Mom had a coughing fit on one of her answers, which the host, Anja, made a passing--and quite polite--reference to and how something might be done if it happened again! When we left I paused to buy a WWTBAM mug, and we headed out of D/MGM for the final time this trip. We boarded the bus for CBR and were soon back. We had already packed and put the luggage in the car, having had to check out before setting out to D/MGM, so we were already out of Room 2354 in Martinique. It was a nice location with a courtyard view and reasonable proximity to the Food Court in Old Port Royale. After grabbing our mugs for some refreshment, we stopped briefly in Marti's room to say farewell to Tinkle Bell for the last time and then headed for the car. On our way, we heard a rumbling sound, but it was a CBR golf cart pulling grey linen trolleys. I mentioned that it sounded like a Disney ride--Bob and Marti agreed--and then I started laughing. They looked at each other-- was that dread in their eyes ?--and asked, "What?" I said, "It is a ride--'THE TOWEL OF TERROR'!", whereupon I broke up. They politely humored me.... So, at around 5:00 PM, Bob and I bid Marti and WDW a fond farewell and headed for Alabama. We have a reservation at a Comfort Inn in Tifton, GA for the night, and so had about 4 hours of driving. We made good time--there was no heavy traffic as the Daytona 500 was ending as we left CBR. We stopped at an IHOP in Valdosta for dinner. The service was very slow (we ain't in WDW anymore ) and Bob's pancakes were lukewarm at best. For the record, I had a swiss, bacon, and mushroom omelette. We bought some gas across the street. The weather was beautiful, BTW. We checked into the Comfort Inn at Tifton, GA at I-75 Exit 63A shortly after 10:00 PM. The room was okay, but had some of the poorest lighting--both for reading and for journalizing--that I had ever seen. I quickly gave up due to the combination of bad lighting, bad pen, and black paper. Coming Up: We See Our Intrepid Travelers Safely Back [ 03-24-2002, 02:46 PM: Message edited by: LLaffinPlace ] |

| Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Day 13 - February 18, 2002: President's Day The alarm clock had been set for 7:25 AM, but we were both up about a 1/2 hour before this. The breakfast buffet was fairly stupendous--eggs, sausages, pancake fixin's, bagles, danish, doughnuts, coffee with flavored creamers, juices, etc. Wow! [No, I didn't eat all of that--I had a bagel with OJ and coffee and--memory fade--perhaps one of the little danish?] After eating, we departed around 7:45 AM and made our way back onto I-75 North despite the ambiguous signage. We calculate about 400 miles to go. The weather was beautiful--sunny and clear. We stopped in Guntersville, AL for lunch at an Appleby's--the last hurrah before getting home and going back on the usual food regimen. We had mozzarella sticks, popcorn shrimp platter for Bob, and smothered steak for me. (I saved half for supper.) Then I had some chocolate dessert that I failed to write down. Bob? After a roundtrip of 1350 miles--through no fault of our own as Bob observed--we arrived home (well, at mine) at about 2:45 PM CST. What a wonderful, wonderful trip! | Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Larry - Thanks again for sharing your trip with us. I'm sad that it is coming to an end. I did however pick up a few tips from your report that I hope will come in use in May or November, especially the detail of your meals. Now I know which restaurants I would like to try (and I'm a very fussy eater). Pam |

| Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Thanks, Pam. While it's a lot of work, it's also a lot of fun reliving the trip. I look forward to hearing about your stay at the AKL. Let me know of any food "finds"! | Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Postscript, Part 1: "Firsts" Well, let's see. Even though Bob and Marti and I are veterans, there were still a number of things we did, saw, or places where we ate for the first time on this trip, which I thought I would share with you. I may not get many of Marti's as I had Bob handy when I was making the list (in the car as we were leaving Orlando) but she was still at WDW! | Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Postscript, Part 2: Rating the Trip I have arbitrarily defined categories and assigned ratings. Of course, the other Intrepid Travelers are invited to put in their $0.02 worth! And the Gentle Readers may also suggest areas to rate. [Yeah. Y'all can rate the puns! | Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Although I am certainly not the writer that Larry is, I will finish off my part of the trip. After waving to Bob & Larry as they drove off , I walked down to OPR to get some coffee, then headed back to my room to wait for my father-in-law & husband to return from Lakeland. For some crazy reason, we had reserved a 7:15 AM Monday flight home; with the new airport security requirements, we were due at the Orlando airport at 5:15 AM! When Mears said they'd need to pick us up at the Custom House at 3:45, we decided to keep the rental car until Monday, which we hoped would allow us an extra 30 minutes for sleeping. So while I waited for Mike (my husband) and his Dad, I called the CH to verify that we could check out at 4:00. They told me that we wouldn't even need to stop by, just call them when we were leaving & they'd verify that we had no charges on our bill over the phone. Sounded fine to me - it'd save us a stop & give us 5 more precious minutes of sleep. Mike & his Dad arrived about 6:00. We shared stories; I was happy that they'd had a terrific time at the softball tournament. After some discussion, we decided to head to Downtown Disney to get dinner at Planet Hollywood. We had a fairly long, but pleasant wait for the bus (no grumbling from the non-fans - phew!). When we arrived at Planet Hollywood, we were told first that the wait would be an hour. We decided to wait; we figured it'd take that long anywhere we went. When we got inside, we were told that it would probably be only 40 minutes - even better! Unfortunately, there was no real place to wait & the music was so loud that it was actually painful (no, I'm not THAT old - it really WAS that loud). Mike's dad immediately turned off both his hearing aids. By the time we were seated, I wanted to RUN out of the restaurant, so I barely noticed my salad. Mike & his Dad had burgers, which they said were good, and once we were seated, the service was fast & efficient. But ohhhhhhhhh the music. I won't be going back there! After dinner, we strolled around a bit, then headed back to pack (rhymes! see I did learn something from Larry)and sleep. At 3:15, we all jumped up, showered and prepared to leave. Mike called the CH to check out - no one answered the phone We called 3 or 4 more times & never got an answer So we quickly loaded the car and drove to the CH. Mike went in & no CM was in the lobby or anywhere in view. He finally walked around the counter and knocked on a door. After a few minutes, an unfriendly CM came out and informed Mike that he should NOT have knocked on the door - the proper procedure would have been to ring a bell! His annoyance showed & he walked over & rang the bell! The CM then walked away to help someone else & left Mike standing, wondering if we were going to make it to the airport on time. When she finished with the other guest, the CM came back & informed Mike that we needed to pay for 4 coffee packs. When he said that he was sure I hadn't used any, she said, too bad, so he paid for the coffee that we never used jut so he could escape (He believes the charge was a pay-back for interrupting whatever she was doing in the back, even though she was supposed to be on duty). With that, we hit the road & made it to the rental car drop-off & then the airport with no further problems. The lines were long (all Daytona 500 fans heading home), but they moved efficiently & with no problems. We were back home before time for lunch! a great trip! PS (in the food court)- The linguine at Wolfgang Puck's had many large garlic chunks in it - too strong for my taste! If you're not a garlic lover, I wouldn't recommend it. My chicken at Artist Point was superior. I'd choose it again, for sure! Marti |

] [B,L] Artist Point Berry Cobbler with Seasonal Berries, Cream Drizzle, and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Kiona Ice Wine 2000 for everybody! As I recall, Bob thought the scallps at Flying Fish (FF) Cafe to be superior to those at AP. And I believe Marti enjoyed the chowder. I must have liked the sausage to have it for the second time, right? Marti said that the chicken was really good (it looked to me as fine as any piece I had ever laid eyes on), and Bob commented that while the Mushroom Risotto was an improvement, it also took a back seat to FF's. It was wonderful to have the Berry Cobbler again and also to have that great Ice Wine as an accompaniment. Rebecca did a great job and we had some fun with her. She also scored some plastic Mickey straws for us! Okay, so we've reached the end of our luscious meal, and Marti and I have this little exchange: Marti: "Ready to go back to the Magic Kingdom?" Larry (barely suppressing giggles): "After Tinkle Bell." Well, that did it! We both started laughing, then wheezing, etc. [Bob was suffering us rather well, I thought.] I didn't quite end up in tears-- but it was close! Even now I can't help chuckling, and I haven't even had any wine.... Next: I Love a Parade! |

| Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure Day 11, Part 4 - February 16, 2002: Do You Remember We're Not Staying at the WL Now? We made our way to the WL dock--after Tinkle Bell --to catch the MK boat. After all, why drive, park and take transportation to the gate when you have someone who'll deliver you right there? We followed the parade up Main Street and cut off to the right to Tomorrowland (TL). Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear had very long standby lines, so we went to Alien Encounter. We took a ride on the TTA afterward, although we had a brief wait for a restart. From there we moved on to the Haunted Mansion, and when we came out it was just in time for the Spectromagic parade to arrive in Liberty Square! We happened on a great viewing location--the platform for the stocks. You can see above people's heads, the floats come towards you and then turn, and you have a good view of the parade stretched out down the street in Frontierland. After Spectromagic, we quickly retraced our steps to TL and Space Mountain for a last thrill ride of the night. By now I was pretty exhausted, but managed to make my way with Marti and Bob back to the dock for the WL boat, where we found one waiting. Arriving at the WL, we were walking along the pier to the resort, and a couple with kids said that they hoped they didn't have to walk all the way back to the lobby. I told them that there was a door on the end of the wing closest to us, and that if it was locked they could get in with their room key. We walked a bit farther and it dawned on us that we weren't staying here and we had no key! This would make it difficult to cut through the lobby. So, we went around the other wing beside the WL Villas and around the front of the WL to get to the parking lot. Whew! This did allow us to point out to Marti our room for this visit, as well as the WLV pool and hot tub. We drove back to the CBR and used my room key to open the gate to the resort. No journalizing tonight--I crashed ASAP! Coming Up: Our Last Day in the Parks! |

| Re: Bob & Larry\'s Excellent WDW Adventure My oh my oh my, what a trip report!! I give the writing a ten. Larry, from your dramatic beginning, when we weren't sure HOW you were going to get there, you had me hooked. I thoroughly enjoyed your dining descriptions, humor (the puns had me laughing while sitting right here at my computer), and all the little details that really make a report unique, like explaining about the location of the phone for the Millionaire show. Thanks for the description of ToT, yes, it was helpful. I can't believe how close you came to the hotseat on WWTBAM!!
