Okay Sandy you've sold me on VMS Orlando. We will definitely check it out the next time we are down there. And you are too cute with the "bargain alerts." Can't thank you enough for the tip on the water mice. It sounds like a great deal. We all want to try them out next trip.

Another great bunch of installments! Looking forward to the next installment even though it means it's coming to an end. Isn't that turtle calling you?

Tiki,

I am loving your trip report! I am a big fan of the Wilderness Lodge and love staying there. We were up on the 6th floor in February, but over on the Villas side. Artist Point is one of my favorite places to eat. I guess we had a better visit to the AKL than your crowd did because the animals were out (we had some rain also). I liked Boma better than my friend Bob, though, but it sounds like you had a higher opinion of their desserts than I did.

Anyway, keep up the good work--you and Gonzo, too!

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos

SO sorry this is taking so long to finish!

Went away last weekend, work is nuts, and am busy planning youth group for the Fall.

Speaking of youth group - here's how I spent my evening - we filled the youth room with smoke (non-toxic stuff from a smoke machine), turned up the sound system with Toby Mac (of DCTalk) playing, and bounced on the couches. Haven't laughed that hard for a long time!

Will try to get the report down by the week-end.

Thanks for your patience and for all the great comments - much appreciated!

What can I say Tikibird, I've just spent the last hour reading your report and LOVED IT!! Your family is so cute and the pictures with the TR is AWESOME!!! Look forward to hearing how your last day went!!!

PS> My DH got bite by fireants on one of trips on his feet, it was a nightmare. Amazing that those little buggers (excuse the pun) can cause such damage.

Hey, Nancy!

Yes, I am loving Tiki's TR! I have been swamped with work and other things. My nephews' band is going in April--supposed to march in the Main Street Parade! Woohoo! But I would like to go back before that.

Sorry, folks. Now, back to Tikibird....

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos

Day Eight (and last) – Friday, July 5th - Epcot, the airport, and back to the Burg

Well, this was it. The last day. But we were, believe it or not, all ready to go home. This was our longest stay at 7 nights, and we were all pretty much on the same page that five is better for us. I got up for one last sticky bun at RF (sorry Sean, but I have to go with the sticky buns over the cheese Danish, although both were awesome) and devotional time on the balcony. More about devotional time in my wrap-up (see “What I learned on my Summer vacation”). Everyone was slow to move today, but we did get ourselves packed up and ready to leave the WL. This was sad for me. One more walk up the cool, cool walkway past RF, through the breaktaking lobby, and out into the muggy, Florida heat. Andy went and got the car for us. I noticed watching all the cars pulling up, that the family with the Saturn and the Neon at home did pretty good getting to stay at the WL with all of those folks in the SUVs and mini vans!

After we loaded the car up, we headed over to Epcot for our last Disney adventure. Spaceship Earth was packed, as usual, so we went straight to Test Track to get fast passes. The Single Rider line was open, so we opted to use it, and had about a 15 minute wait. Craig mentioned that he and my brother Scott had noticed the resemblance to Chris of this drawing on the wall on a past trip. What do you think?

Unbelievably, the ride did not stop for the second time in a row that we were on it!

The rest of the morning/afternoon is a bit of a blur, as I forgot to take any notes this day! We did hit Ice Station Cool, and this boy’s face when tasting Beverly for the first time was priceless. Even better, though, is when he took a full glass of it over to his grandmother in a wheelchair. You should have seen the disgusted face she made. I was howling! (oops, just warped back to my teenaged days when everything was a “howl!”)

We also went on Spaceship Earth, and Craig again told us how traumatized he is by the new beginning. Another spin on Figment, and Chris and Andy stopped and made some pictures of themselves as cats in the Imagination building. Living with the Land was okay, but we had a woman CM that spoke very quickly; it was hard to figure out what she was saying.

I decided I had to have an Epcot T Shirt, so we stopped in one of the Gateway shops and I got a cool one with a mickey head sillouette filled with the various flags of the countries.

Then it was time for LeCellier – yum! I love this place! Craig and Chris had the CHICKEN sandwich, Andy a salad, and I had the cheeseburger (one of these days I’m going to really splurge and get something besides the cheeseburger!). Chris and I were the only ones to get the cheese soup this time – it is SO good! And the breadsticks, too! I cunningly figured out that the Food Police wasn’t going to let us stop anywhere else for dessert, so I ordered the Crème brule - Awesome!

After lunch, we stopped a few shops in Canada and England, and I convinced the Food Police that I could only look in the Pastisiere – which I did – and the CMs were a bit confused. I guess most people don’t just go in, look, drool and leave! But I was still glad I had the brule instead – it was excellent.

A stop in Monaco had me convince the Food Police to take this shot. Does he look like he’s ready to go home or what?

One more stop in the Japan gift shop (it was MUCH drier this trip), and then on to Norway to ride the Maelstrom. There was a line, and I had had it with lines, so I opted to just walk around a bit. I stopped in the bakery there and ordered a Coke. I don’t know why exactly, but this was the best Coke I ever had. A bit more syrup than usual, I think, but it was very refreshing. Got a pic of the boys in the gift shop going out.

Last stop – Mexico for El Rio del Tiempo. I don’t like this ride, and now that I realize it was the last thing I rode in WDW, I am very upset! But, it started raining after the boat ride, and we didn’t want to be wet in the plane, so we booked for the gates. Even passed up SE, we had just had enough theme parks for awhile. (We had had ressies for the Ice Cream Social, but decided to skip that, as well).

Craig and I still had some Virgin Megastore coupons burning holes in our pockets, so we were able to talk the Food Police into stopping there (instead of the outlets to get ugly green Birkenstocks, which was what the FP wanted to do). Now, this is about as FAR from a Bargain alert as you’re going to get. Ever since the night before, I had convinced myself that I just absolutely HAD to have the Hyper Techno Disney import CD that cost – ouch $36.00! BUT, I did have this buy $100 get $20 off coupon, so I generously told all the guys I would buy them each a CD, just so I could say I only really paid $16 for mine! Now this CD is okay, but all the songs sound the same. I must say that “Ducks Dance Too” is a very cool song, though! So, after our last visit to the VMS, we started for the airport.

Chris almost had a heart attack when we drove over the spikes to take the car back (just like I did in December). Returning the car to National was very smooth, as was our check in at US Airways. We stopped for Bagel Sandwiches for Andy Chris and I (New York City Bagels at the food court – we love their sandwiches), and Craig had Pizza Hut. I got a bag of taffy for the youth group in the Disney shop, and then it was time to head for the gate.

Flight was on time and uneventful. We got back to Pittsburgh around 10:00 p.m. When we got out to the parking lot, I was amazed at the cool breeze. Great trip, but it was good to be home.

But wait, it’s not over year – there’s still

Appendix A – The Many Faces of Gonzo – Gonzo has had a tendency over the years to make a certain face when he gets his picture taken. This can last for years at a time. Wait till you see this years’ pose (as well as some from back in the day)

And then

The Wrap Up – thoughts, wisdom, mindless rambling, etc., and “What I learned on my Summer Vacation”

Check it out soon!
